A closer look at Melbourne's booming hotel sector

A number of factors including a change in planning policy, stricter lending conditions have resulted in a weaker residential market and a substantial decrease in the number of apartment buildings submitted for planning consideration.

Instead developers have turned to commercial, student accommodation or hotel use in lieu or in support of residential use.

Over the course of the next 4-5 years a total of 8,100 hotel rooms will be added to within Melbourne CBD, Southbank and Docklands

A summary of these upcoming hotel developments is provided below:
