Simon Norris is the newly elected National President of the Housing Industry Association (HIA).
After serving as HIA’s National Vice President for the past two years, Simon Norris (pictured) has been elected as National President to replace outgoing National President, Pino Monaco.
“Simon’s involvement with the HIA has spanned over 20 years, in various roles including as Queensland Executive Committee member, Queensland Vice President and President, National Service Committee Chair and as National Director for the past eight years,” said HIA managing director, Graham Wolfe.
In his first formal address at HIA’s National Conference in Perth, Mr Norris praised former National President, Pino Monaco for his “commitment, energy and outstanding contribution to the National Board and to the HIA membership more generally”.
“I am delighted to say that Mr Monaco’s contribution to our great Association will continue through his position on HIA’s National Board as Immediate Past President,” said Mr Norris. 
“His knowledge and experience will serve the Board well as we approach the challenges and opportunities ahead.”
“The residential building industry generates over $130 billion dollars in economic activity, employs over one million workers and provides opportunities for rewarding, lifelong careers in an industry that boasts a ‘salt of the earth dna’. 
“The industry’s contribution is much greater if related activities such as landscaping, hard and soft furnishings, domestic appliances and home technologies are included.”
“HIA members include builders, developers, trade contractors, designers, building supervisors, manufacturers and suppliers, estimators, engineers, and many other professionals. 
“I look forward to working with HIA’s members to achieve improvements across key areas such as planning schemes, red tape, finance and housing affordability,” said Mr Norris.

New HIA national president Simon Norris elected

View Real Estate founder and CEO Adrian Kelly has been named the new president of The Real Estate Institute of Australia (REIA).
Kelly (above), who is from Tasmania, was elected as the 45thPresident of REIA, the national professional association for Australia’s real estate sector at the Annual General Meeting held in Canberra yesterday.
Hayden Groves from Western Australia was re-elected Deputy President for another 12 months. 
Kelly was born and raised in Hobart and has worked in the Tasmanian real estate industry since 1990. 
He is the founder and CEO of View Real Estate, an independent agency comprising seven sales and property management offices across Tasmania.  
Kelly's real estate experience includes residential sales, property management and commercial sales including hotels and motels. 
He is also an accomplished auctioneer having spent a number of years as a full-time auctioneer within his own business specialising in plant and equipment and asset sales for local councils, finance companies among others. 
Adrian is a licensed Estate Agent, Board Member of the Real Estate Institute of Tasmania (REIT) as well as the immediate past President of the REIT having served in that role for four years. He also sits on the Property Agents Board which is the regulatory authority in Tasmania and is an Associate of the REIA. He is the seventh President to be elected from Tasmania and the first since Peter Bushby who served from 2012 to 2014. 
In accepting the role, Kelly thanked out-going President, Malcolm Gunning, from New South Wales, who has held the position for two years.
“Malcolm has provided excellent stewardship of the organisation since 2016 and during that time he has achieved much in ensuring that our members have a strong national voice,” Mr Kelly said.
“On behalf of the REIA Board and the REIA Secretariat, we extend our sincere thanks to Malcolm for his professionalism and commitment to the role during his tenure."
Kelly said next year will be an equally important one for the sector with the upcoming Federal Election and the public debate continuing on taxation of housing and affordability.   “REIA will continue to be a strong advocate for the retention of negative gearing, will continue to lobby for taxation reform at all levels and for the appointment of a dedicated Minister for Property Services,” Kelly said.

The Real Estate Institute of Victoria (REIV) has elected Robyn Waters as President for 2018-19.

Waters was the first Australian woman to be appointed World President of the International Real Estate Federation in 2014. 
She is the third female president at the REIV after Di Baker, who took over for two years in 1987, and Valda Walsh, who held the position from 2000 to 200.
Waters served on the REIV Board as Senior Vice President in 2017-18 and Director from 2001 to 2006 as well as being a ministerial appointment to the Estate Agents Council from 2015 to 2018. 
She is a licensed estate agent who operates as a sole trader providing real estate services to a select portfolio of clients. 
She is a fellow of the REIA and Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.
“I am delighted to be appointed as the third female REIV President since 1936 at this crucial time for Victoria’s real estate industry,” Waters said. 
“I was born and raised in a real estate family in the northern suburbs of Melbourne and witnessed the industry’s evolution since the early 1980s. 
“Through my work with the International Real Estate Federation, I have learnt that the real estate industry is intrinsically linked to the livability and prosperity of our community and has a major role to play in shaping our future.” 
“I look forward to working with our members, legislators, interest groups and stakeholders to elevate the role of the REIV to provide further insight and perspective on policy and issues that will mold our communities and enhance the way we live."

REIV elect Robyn Waters as third female president in 82 years

Damian Collins has been elected as the new president of the Real Estate Institute of Western Australia (REIWA).
Collins will follow Hayden Groves, who announced he was stepping down last week.
Lisa Joyce from Joyce Property Investments was elected deputy president.
 Collins has served on the REIWA Council since 2011 and as deputy president since 2015.
He is the founder and managing director of Momentum Wealth, a Perth-based property investment consultancy, and chairman of commercial property funds management business, Mair Property Funds.
“It is an honour to be elected President and I thank Council for bestowing me with the privilege of representing the Institute on behalf of its members,” Collins said.
“I would also like to thank Hayden Groves for his hard work and dedication to the Institute during his tenure as President.
“The Council and I are dedicated to continuing to build upon REIWA’s 100 year legacy of advocating on behalf of our members and the WA public.
“The WA marketplace remains a challenging environment for agents and vendors alike and there is much work to be done as our local market begins its recovery.”

At REIWA’s 100th Annual General Meeting last month, Hayden Groves announced he would be finishing his three year term.
Mr Groves, who will remain on the REIWA Council, was elected as President in 2015 having served on the Council since 2010.
“The past three years have been extremely rewarding and I thank the Council and REIWA members for entrusting me with the role over the past three years.
“My tenure as President has marked a very challenging time for the WA property market. We’ve seenstate migration slow, less demand from buyers and tenants, increased stock levels and subdued transactional activity.
“Somewhat unusually, no sector of the market has been spared the malaise, although tenants and buyers have benefited from improved affordability. Thankfully the worst appears to be behind us and I am hopeful a recovery is on the horizon.
“I look forward to continuing my service on REIWA’s Council, confident we will continue to build on all that REIWA has achieved over the past 100 years,” Mr Groves said.
The AGM also saw the results of the ballot for Council positions announced, with all four re-nominating Councillors returned to their positions.

Damian Collins elected new REIWA President

The Urban Development Institute of Australia has elected Darren Cooper to replace the outgoing Michael Corcoran as its next national president after his two year term.
The UDIA, which has more than 2000 member companies, champions issues of housing affordability, supply and infrastructure policy.
Cooper has more than 30 years of experience in the development industry.
He currently serves on a variety of boards in the development industry, not-for-profit organisations and private companies.
Cooper is a strategic adviser to national developer AMEX Corporation.
He is a Life Member of UDIA WA and a former senior executive at Mirvac, Blackburne Property Group and PEET Limited.
"Our industry delivers 10 percent of Australia's GDP and employs 10 percent of Australia's workforce. UDIA is here to ensure that our industry's voice is heard given this massive contribution."

Darren Cooper elected as Urban Development Institute president

The Real Estate Institute of Victoria has announced that Richard Simpson has been elected president for 2017-18.
Simpson, a partner in the family business W.B Simpson &amp; Son in North Melbourne, has been heavily involved with the REIV over many years, serving as Senior Vice President on the previous Board.
He has also provided extensive input to a number of Institute committees, serving as Commercial &amp; Industrial Chapter Chair for three years and Members Council Chair for two years.
Both his father and grandfather are former presidents of the REIV.
Prior to entering real estate, Simpson was a Chartered Accountant with KPMG where he specialised in the banking, finance and property development sectors.
He holds a Bachelor of Commerce from Melbourne University as well as a Bachelor of Business (Property) from RMIT, where he majored in property valuations.
He said it was an honor to lead the Institute through what is an undoubtedly challenging period for the industry.
“Victoria is currently in the midst of the largest review of property legislation in the state’s history, with significant reform of the Residential Tenancies Act currently proposed.”
“It has never been more important for the views of our members to be heard at the highest levels of Government.”
His predecessor was Joseph Walton and before him Geoff White.

Like his forebears, Richard Simpson elected REIV president for 2017-18

The Real Estate Institute of Victoria (REIV) has announced Geoff White as its elected president for 2015-16, his second stint after serving in 2003-04.
White is an REIV veteran. He was director of REIV from 1999–2007 and 2014-2015, and has served on numerous REIV committees and as chairman of the auction chapter committee.
He started his real estate career in 1984 and has since managed and sold residential, commercial and industrial property, owned his own real estate offices and served as CEO of a growing franchise group.
White is currently commercial manager and branch manager for Lucas Real Estate's Yarra Edge office.
“The REIV Board is united in its focus to improve our real estate profession and follow the good work of the previous Board,” he said.
Two new office bearers were also elected to office for 2015-16 – Joseph Walton (Senior Vice President) and Frank Hellier (Vice President).

REIV elects industry veteran Geoff White president

Buyer's agent representation group the Real Estate Buyers Agents Association of Australia has elected Rich Harvey as president.
Rich Harvey is also managing director of Propertybuyer and volunteer chairman of the Buyer's Agents Chapter of the REINSW.
Mr Harvey said better licensing requirements and training for buyer’s agents would be a key focus for the association moving forward. 
“Our main focus is to educate and promote good buying practices to consumers and bring together like-minded professionals who share the same commitment to ethics and industry best practice," Mr Harvey said.
“There is a risk of lack of due diligence, as well as a risk of overpaying, without the correct knowledge and experience."
Former REBAA president Jacque Parker served for three years. Veronica Morgan from Good Deeds Property Buyers has been appointed vice president.
