Laing+Simmons Corporation has been purchased by a partnership comprising members of the company’s head office team.

The likes of managing director Leanne Pilkington, who is also the president of the Real Estate Institute of NSW, and some of the network’s highest-profile and longest-serving principals including D’Leanne Lewis, Ray Fayad and Nicholas Efrossynis, are part of the buying syndicate.

The New South Wales-based boutique real estate franchise, which has a total of 43 offices in metro and regional NSW, was bought from the Dexar Group for an undisclosed sum.

Leanne Pilkington said the purchase by members of the network demonstrates the value and belief in the brand.

“The purchase of Laing+Simmons by network members highlights the confidence we have in the business and the potential for growth we see in the future.

"When the opportunity to acquire Laing+Simmons arose, the demand among franchisees was strong and the offer was fully subscribed quickly, demonstrating the belief in the brand,” Ms Pilkington said. 

“Laing+Simmons has been a fixture in the New South Wales real estate landscape since 1967. We recognise the industry is undergoing rapid evolution, which means franchising needs to evolve as well.

“No-one is better placed to understand the needs of today’s business owners than agency principals, who operate at the coal face every day.

“The new shareholding group is very diverse, in relation to age, location and of course gender. This will ensure a holistic direction is set for the business which welcomes and benefits a broader demographic of network partners and their teams.

“This diversity will underpin our future growth as we look to grow the Laing+Simmons network in select metropolitan and regional locations in 2021 and beyond.

The offices at Laing+Simmons Narrabeen, Laing+Simmons Dee Why and the new Northern beaches team at Laing+Simmons Young Property have joined forces with Laing+Simmons head office to help Making Meditation Mainstream grow its movement to new suburban locations in Sydney, as well as other Australian cities and internationally locations as well.
Each Saturday at sunrise, Making Mediation Mainstream takes members of the community through a peaceful mediation experience to help them connect with nature and each other. Free to all and open to everybody, the movement has 14 locations in Australia and is growing, with the first international location soon to begin in Switzerland and Hawaii on the cards soon thereafter.
Laing+Simmons is known for its people-first culture which emphasises the need for its people to care for each other like they would a member of their family. The company has an Employee Assistance Program in place which makes confidential counselling services available free for team members who might be experiencing difficulties either in their work or personal lives.
The new partnership is a natural fit with the company’s family culture, said Laing+Simmons Managing Director Leanne Pilkington.
“Improving mental health outcomes for people in the Laing+Simmons family, including our team members, our customers and the communities in which we operate, is something we’re emotionally invested in. it makes sense for us to formalise a partnership with an organisation which shares the same values and, importantly, offers a solution,” Ms Pilkington said.
“Our head office staff as well as people from our Northern Beaches teams actively participate in the initiative. Societal mental health challenges have been exacerbated by the pandemic to lead many people to experience feelings of anxiety, stress, isolation, depression and more.
“By supporting Making Mediation Mainstream, which in turn supports Lifeline, we can make a tangible effort to provide a solution which some people will be able to derive real, transformative benefits from,” she said.
Making Meditation Mainstream was born on Sydney’s Northern Beaches in 2018 – a bad year for the area with 33 recorded suicides – with the objective of tackling mental health challenges through meditation as a supportive practice that can nurture a person’s connection to self, to nature and to each other.
It’s a registered charity which directly supports Lifeline on the Northern Beaches.
The partnership with Laing+Simmons comes at a time when Making Meditation Mainstream is gearing up for a major ‘Big Beach Sit’ event to coincide with Mental Health Month in October, in collaboration with Lifeline. Watch this space for more information on this world-first event.

Grand residence in Riverstone sold for $3.65 million

Real estate agent Ray Fayad has joined Daniel Mourad as co-principal of the new Laing+Simmons Oatlands and Carlingford offices.
Mr Fayad, long-term principal of Laing+Simmons Parramatta and Granville offices in western Sydney, said the new office would enhance the service customer in the area locals affectionately refer to as Kingsdene.

Ray Fayad joins new Laing+Simmons Oatlands and Carlingford

Laing+Simmons has welcomed a branch to the franchise.
Laing+Simmons Hunters Hill joins the network this week under the local leadership of Richard Pickton.
The Laing+Simmons Hunters Hill team was formerly Ray White.
Mr Pickton says the decision to join the Laing+Simmons family was based on "culture".
“We recognised it was time to elevate our business to the next level in terms of growth, and to do this we wanted to ensure we would have the right support and, importantly, the right culture behind us,” Mr Pickton says.
“The real estate market locally is going through a new phase where buyers are taking a more cautious approach to maximise value for money, yet the quality of properties and  lifestyle on offer in Hunters Hill ensure demand remains robust."
