Mortgage lending up lower than expected 1.8% in May: ABS

Home loans to owner occupiers rose by a lower than expected 1.8% in May, according to the latest seasonally adjusted figures from the ABS.

There were 49,636 home loans approved in May compared with 48,475 in April.

A survey of economists by Bloomberg last week had forecast a median rise of 2.2% in May. 

Total housing finance by value increased 2% in May on a seasonally adjusted basis to $23.433 billion.
