The couple had initially planned to level the three-bedroom house and build a new residence entered around a pool on the 655 sqm block.
But a change in circumstances led to them refurbishing the post-war home instead.
The couple also offloaded a double-storey Strathmore unit that had been an investment property, for $750,000 in April last year.

AFL veteran Jarrad Waite failed to sell his 1980 Strathmore investment townhouse property, which The Herald Sun reported passed in with no bids. 
Nelson Alexander auctioneer David Mogford’s sole vendor bid of $700,000 saw the start and finish of the auction of <a id="LPlnk499605" href="https://www.realestate.com.au/property-unit-vic-strathmore-127729226">3/242 Woodland Street</a>.
Waite — who was in Cairns for his side’s Round 1 clash with Gold Coast — and his wife Jackie had set a $755,000 asking price.
The two storey two bedroom townhouse was bought for $790,000 last October when auctioned with $680,000 to $730,000 guidance.

Jarrad Waite's Strathmore listing attracts no bids despite price decline indications

The house at 3 Dagonet Stret, Strathmore is up for grabs. But only the iconic house, not the land.
The longtime owner of the house from The Castle says she’ll take what she can at <a href="https://bradteal.com.au/property/1897/" target="_blank">July 25 auction</a> for the humble Strathmore weatherboard that sits adjacent to the airport.
It is famous for its role as Darryl Kerrigan’s “castle” in the 1997 film.
Rebecca Towns from the listing agency Brad Teal is expecting it to fetch anywhere between $1000 and $10,000 as the buyer will then need to spend another $45,000 to $50,000.
Brad Teal is marketing the house as “the ultimate piece of movie memorabilia” and a “once in a lifetime opportunity to purchase a piece of Australian history”.
“It’s sure to excite movie enthusiasts, entrepreneurs and great Aussie battlers,” the listing said.

Seller Vicky Cosentino told The Herald Sun she couldn’t wait for someone to take the house off her hands after 24 years of ownership which included the two-week shoot of The Castle, which she advised she never gave permission for.
Cosentino has wants to build two townhouses after the Moonee Valley council voted not to pursue permanent heritage protection for the home.
It drew interest from Federation Council and Corowa Whisky, who considered moving it north of the river as a tourist attraction. But that never eventuated.
“To tell you the truth, yes (I’m over it),” Cosentino said.
“Even if I get $2000 or $3000 for it, as long as it’s moved off my property. It’s nothing to do with the money.
“I would like to see someone look after it, but I really don’t mind where it goes, whether it’s to Mildura or Bonnie Doon.”
Towns expected the house to suit first-home buyers who already had some land, or an investor looking to use it as an Airbnb.

The Kerrigan's Castle home offered with Airbnb potential

The house from The Castle is set to be relocated to Corowa as a tourist attraction.
Federation Council has done a deal with the owner of the Strathmore, Melbourne home.
It is the one which appeared in the 1997 film about a family fighting an airport expansion town.
Corowa is located on the banks of the Murray River in New South Wales.
The shire’s administrator Mike Eden said the council’s economic development manager Greg Aplin had been liaising with the weatherboard house’s owner Vicki Cosentino.
“He’s been talking to the lady for a few months and they’ve come to a deal and we spoke to the Corowa Whisky and Chocolate Factory and they’ve got a nice block of land to put it on,” Mr Eden told The Border Mail.
He expects the transaction will involve the council paying for the costs to shift the house to Corowa, suggesting it may involve $20,000.
Under the plan, the home would reportedly be used as a museum, accommodation and cafe.
Ms Cosentino has been keen for the house to be removed so she can build two townhouses on the block which adjoins Essendon airport.
Mr Eden said the idea of Corowa hosting The Castle home emerged from Melbourne comedy pioneer Peter Crofts.
Previously The Castle was unable to have <a href="https://www.urban.com.au/news/63508-no-heritage-protection-for-the-castle-move-home" target="_blank">heritage protection</a> from the council.

The Castle home set to be relocated to Corowa

Council has voted against pursuing permanent heritage protection for the Strathmore house famous for its role in the movie The Castle.
Four Moonee Valley councillors last tonight supported the heritage protection bid but five, including mayor Amanda Surace, rejected it.
But the weatherboard house at 3 Dagonet St might still be saved from the wreckers’ ball as the owner is hoping to sell it to a buyer who can remove it from her block of land before she builds two townhouses.
“I don’t want to knock it down,” Vicky Cosentino said. “But I’m over the moon (with the decision). I didn’t sleep last night,” the Herald Sun reported.
The vote followed a report — commissioned by the council in August and compiled by external heritage consultants Context — which deemed the house worth protecting for its “local social and state historical significance” as “place where popular culture … was created and is celebrated”.

No heritage protection by council for The Castle movie home

The Strathmore house that featured in the cult film, The Castle has moved a step closer to heritage protection.
It's a long shot, but the Kerrigan's home from the 1997 film, The Castle, could still be saved from demolition by its “social significance”. 
Described as arguably Australian film’s most recognisable home, the Strathmore home, in Melbourne’s northern suburbs, faces the wrecking ball.
The classic Australian film of 1997 celebrates the triumph of the Kerrigans over the impending compulsory acquisition.
“This is not a house, it’s a home," was how the status was put in the High Court proceedings.
The house at 3 Dagonet Street attracts visitors knocking on the door and asking to speak to Darryl.
Set next to an airport, it was up for rental recently at<a href="https://www.domain.com.au/3-dagonet-street-strathmore-vic-3041-10654818" target="_blank"> $380 per week</a>.
Moonee Valley City Council confirmed a planning application for the construction of two dwellings was lodged in late May.
But the home at 3 Dagonet Street could be added to the heritage overlay of the Moonee Valley planning scheme, if the property is deemed significant for inclusion.
Moonee Valley councillor Narelle Sharpe has sought this week a report to investigate the potential for the site to be covered by the overlay based on “strong or special association with a particular community or cultural group for social and cultural reasons”.
She said the film, starring Michael Caton, Stephen Curry and Eric Bana, was probably the most iconic movie ever made in Australia, and that the outcome would be good for the community.
