The New South Wales developer TOGA Group have officially broken ground at their long-awaited redevelopment of the Surry Hills shopping centre.

To be known as Surry Hills Village and due for completed in early 2024, the mixed-use development and precinct on the corner of Cleveland and Baptist Street will home 122 apartments and a 102-room hotel, as well as 12,000 sqm of commercial and retail spaces.

SJB have designed the development in collaboration with development partners Iain Halliday and BKH, Aspect Studios director Sacha Coles and Studio Prineas architect and principal Eva-Marie Prineas.

The 12,000 square metres of commercial and retail spaces that will feature a Coles supermarket, specialty retail and parking for retail customers.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Around 50 per cent of the 122 apartments have sold. Apartment start at $875,000 for a 55 sqm, one bedder.

The 81 sqm two bedroom apartments are priced at $1.55 million and the 122 sqm three bedder is priced at $2.65 million.

There&#39;s been a mix of buyer types, from locals to&nbsp;international buyers who will be moving in once they&rsquo;re able to return home.

The groundbreaking ceremony marked&nbsp;around five and a half&nbsp;years since TOGA paid nearly $95 million for the 1.2 hectare site in mid-2015.

TOGA managing director Allan Vidor AM was joined by Redfern local and Sydney&nbsp;Lord Mayor Clover Moore at an official ceremony marking milestone.

Mr Vidor said the ground breaking marks the start of the much-anticipated regeneration of the iconic site. &nbsp;

Surry Hills Village plans finalised as TOGA officially break ground

Graceland, the Cleveland Street boarding house in Redfern, has been listed for sale for the first time in over two decades.
Formerly known as Meath House and Illoura, the property at <a href="https://www.commercialrealestate.com.au/property/461-cleveland-street-redfern-nsw-2016-2014718038" target="_blank">461 Cleveland Street</a> last traded for $725,000 in 1996.
The grand three storey terrace is the tallest on the long street.

It was built in the mid 1800s and was called home by Patrick Stanley, the four time mayor of Redfern.

She said it was full of musicians and artists, including singer-songwriter Tex Perkins. 
There's a two storey cottage on the rear of the 455 sqm land parcel which is currently leased at $750 a week until July 2019.
The boarding house is being offered as a going concern by TGC agent Scot Robertson, who has a November 17 auction.
Operated as fully-licensed budget accommodation, the house currently<a href="https://www.commercialrealestate.com.au/property/461-cleveland-street-redfern-nsw-2016-2014718038" target="_blank"> </a>returns about $190,000 a year gross.

Redfern boarding house icon Graceland listed

Celebrity manager Nick Fordham is selling the Redfern terrace he has renovated over the last eight year.
Fordham, who is the boss of the celebrity management business The Fordham Company, paid $1.4 million for the <a href="https://www.realestate.com.au/property-house-nsw-redfern-129476326" target="_blank">William Street home</a> in 2010.
He's now asking $2.5 million for the 1880s colonial cottage that was renovated with recycled and reclaim materials (above and below).

Nick heads up The Fordham Company, whose clients include entrepreneur Mark Bouris, media personality Tony Squires and Nine presenter Julia Snook.
Fordham hit the headlines last year when he negotiated the move of client Lisa Wilkinson from the Today Show to Channel Ten's The Project after the gender pay dispute.
The Fordham's have a history with Redfern.
Nick's brother, 2GB radio presenter Ben Fordham, previously lived in Redfern. He <a href="https://www.urban.com.au/news/71459-radio-personality-ben-fordham-sells-redfern-terrace" target="_blank">sold the industrial terrace</a> last year for $3.2 million as he moved to the Lower North Shore with his family.
He retains an investment property which, having <a href="https://www.urban.com.au/news/78153-ben-fordham-lists-redfern-property-investment" target="_blank">failed to sell</a> late last year, became a <a href="https://www.urban.com.au/news/79003-ben-fordham-seeks-tenant-for-redfern-development-after-auction-pulled" target="_blank">$1,800 a week rental.</a>

Celebrity manager Nick Fordham lists in Redfern

The former Redfern post office premises has been listed for sale.
The two storey, Victorian Italianate building at <a href="https://www.realcommercial.com.au/property-offices-nsw-redfern-502959542" target="_blank">119 Redfern Street</a> is being sold by international architecture firm DKO, who paid $2.6 million for the property in 2014 when it was sold by Linc Energy founder Peter Bond.
He had paid $2,125,000 three years earlier when buying from celebrity publicist Max Markson.
Since the 2014 trade, the building has undergone a brand new refurbishment from DKO, and is now up for sale for around $5 million.

Built in 1882 by colonial architect James Barnet, the four and a half storey corner clock tower and post office included a telegraph office, parlour, drawing room, three bedrooms, kitchen, a servant's room, bathroom, scullery, washhouse, fuel shed and two stall stables. 
In 1880, £3000 was provided for the erection of the Redfern post office, and then the Public Works added a clock tower for an estimated extra £700.
The building has 480 square metres of internal space on its 330 square metre Redfern Street block. 
When it sold in 2014, there were some who were looking at possibly turning the landmark building into a home.

Colliers International are marketing the building that was sold by Australia Post in 2000 for $600,000.
Colliers agent Tony Crane, who sold the building to DKO, said to see a high quality renovation of a heritage building was rare.
"It’s extremely rare to see heritage buildings restored to this level while still retaining the original heritage façade," Crane said.
"Redfern has become a burgeoning hub for creative business and 119 Redfern Street is well suited to the area and for those who are looking beyond traditional, corporate space."
Earlier this year Redfern's popular Alchemy commercial spaces were listed for sale, however none of the five commercial spaces have yet to find a buyer.
The Alchemy, further down Redfern Street, comprises the busy restaurants Bart Jr, Fern St, Isaacs and Juan. Isaacs takes up two commercial spaces.

Former Redfern post office for sale

A Redfern laneway that was nameless on maps for more than 130 years has been named after a 19th century local mum and pioneer businesswoman who is thought to be Australia’s first female builder in Sydney.
The City of Sydney has named the narrow laneway running parallel to Pitt Street between Turner and Redfern streets as Glover Lane in honour of Anne Glover and her family.
Members of the Glover family were builders who lived and worked in the area in the late 19th century.
Following the death of John, her husband, Anne led the family business to help shape the historic suburb.
The Glovers built the row of terraces they called Victoria Terrace in Pitt Street, Redfern, with the help of sub-contractors in 1879.
Newspaper records from November that year show a pair of brand new, six-roomed houses on Pitt Street advertised for lease by a company called “Mrs Glover and Sons”.
"Anne Glover was building beautiful homes that still stand as a monument to a woman ahead of her time,” Lord Mayor Clover Moore said.
“It is only fitting that we name the laneway after her and her hardworking family.”
Anne Glover, the family matriarch, was widowed in 1863, but from 1873 through to 1884 she ran a building firm based in Waterloo and Redfern with two sons, David and Thomas.
"The proposed naming commemorates a local firm and female empowerment in a male dominated trade," council papers said. 
Master Builder Association’s NSW’s Executive Director, Brian Seidler, told 2GB's Ross Greenwood Small Business Show that Anne Glover was a trailblazer for women in an industry which needed women over the next 18 months building boom as "the great untapped resource."
“While we can’t definitively confirm Anne Glover as the first female builder in Australia, she was certainly one of the very first,” Mr Seidler said.
Anne Glover (nee Stinson or Stevenson) arrived in Australia as an unmarried 22-year-old housekeeper aboard the Garrow from Ireland in 1839. 
The Glovers lived and worked on Botany Road, Waterloo, near Raglan Street, from 1873 to 1884, then moved to 95 Victoria Terrace on Pitt Street.
Anne Glover died aged 73 in 1888.

It was offered with a price guide of $2.4 million plus.
The 1850s Georgian cottage last traded in 1984 for $81,000.

But Title Tattle gleans around $2.6 million was secured.

High Court judge Virginia Bell quickly accepts market judgement

Virginia Bell, the High Court judge, has listed her Redfern home.
Over $2.4 million is sought for the timeless Georgian cottage, built in 1850 as part of surgeon William Redfern's original estate.
Occupying a 277sqm block on Pitt Street, the 1850s gem has three bedrooms and two bathrooms.
In 1997 she was close to selling, but it was passed in at $636,000 through L.J. Hooker agent Menelo Migdalias.
Bell has McGrath agent Ben Forsyth taking it to August 1 auction.
It traded at $81,000 in 1984. Title Tattle seems to recall Water Rats actor Peter Bensley then had a stake in the colonial sandstone.
Having begun her legal career in 1978 at the newly established Redfern Legal Centre, Justice Bell replaced Justice Kirby in 2008, who had served the High Court for 13 years.
Colonial Dr. Redfern’s mansion at the far end of Pitt Street was demolished by the State Government in the 1950s.

The late decorator Frank Grill's Redfern city home has been sold.
<a href="https://www.propertyobserver.com.au/https://www.dijones.com.au/properties-sold/listings/1452" target="_blank">The Kepos Street terrace</a>, bought in 1995 for $455,000, sold through Jane Schumann and Gary Sands of Di Jones Real Estate who had $1.7 million price hopes.
Grill's last ongoing project was the Point Piper home for Paul Lederer, chairman of the Western Sydney Wanderers, and his wife Eve. Lyne Jervis has held the decor business together since his unexpected death in his sleep in September.
His most famous commission was Lady Mary Fairfax's Pierre penthouse in New York in the late 1980s.  
His former Circular Quay apartment featured in the international magazine, Architectural Digest.

Decorator Frank Grill's Redfern terrace sold

An old industrial warehouse offered for sale as the best potential single residence in Redfern with $3 million hopes fetched $3.61 million at its weekend auction.
The <a href="https://www.bresicwhitney.com.au/buy/73-75-george-street-redfern-12195" target="_blank">George Street</a> building had last sold for $1.43 million in 2012. 
The 350 sqm property was auctioned by William Phillips of BresicWhitney with eight registered bidders. 
There's little more than exposed brickwork, its tallowwood and brushbox floorboards and its treetop outlook. The vendors bought the space from the Anglican Church and spent $500,000 on basic renovations, to configure it as a one-bedroom home with a kitchen, garage and two long empty rooms.
The property is one of Redfern's top authentic warehouses and could become the area's best residence.
A four-bedroom house at 27 Chelsea Street, Redfern sold for a suburb record of $3.45 million in August. 
Budding venture capitalist Dan Gammell and his art dealer fiancee, Eleanor Cheetham had bought the home of the late artist Brenda Humble in 2013 for a then record price of $2.58 million.
In that time they undertook a modest renovation, including installing a new kitchen.

The nine time state of origin star, and the NRL's first openly gay player, Ian Roberts is downsizing, off to a new smaller apartment.
His two level apartment in Redfern has been listed with $1.3 million plus hopes through Belle Property Surry Hills agent Charles Touma.
Spread over two levels, the 160 sqm apartment offering cost $640,000 in 2000, and renovated in 2009.
Roberts played for South Sydney Rabbitohs, Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles and North Queensland Cowboys.
Upon retirement in 1998, Roberts began studying acting with roles including appeared as Riley, Lex Luthor's henchman in the movie, Superman Returns in 2006.
