The Neil Clerehan-designed Barwon Heads mid-century modern has been snapped up weeks before its May auction for $6.75 million.
It was built in the late 1960s after the Gubbins family purchased their Riverside Terrace block on the river near Geelong for $1,960.
It traded for the first time in over three decades, having last sold for $160,000 in 1986 when bought by the Stasiuk family.

The Gubbins family sold the home in 1978 for $111,000, and there have only been two subsequent owners since.

The record stood at $4.4 million, set in 2017 when a Paringa Lane waterfront sold quietly.

Neil Clerehan-designed Barwon Heads home snapped up pre-auction

With the imminent return of SeaChange to television, Barwon Heads could be back in the spotlight if the Channel Nine series films again in the coastal Victorian location. 
Some property commentators have calculated Barwon Heads prices have outdone Melbourne's during the intervening two decades.
One recent sale was the holiday rental home known as Cottesloe Beach Shack for $900,000 to Northcote buyers, showing sizeable price growth. 
The cute Cottesloe Drive cottage last traded at $500,050 in 2010 when bought by a Richmond couple whose saw its rental income jump to over $50,000 a year.
It sold at $275,000 in 2004 and before that in 1971 at $1100. It once featured on Channel Nine's Postcards, albeit with Glen Moriarty, not Bec Judd, singing its praises.
Nestled within native landscaped garden, the main home has three bedrooms and two bathrooms, the main eco-ply designed.
An open plan living and dining area that adjoins the galley-style kitchen opens to the front deck and garden.
There is a one bedroom bungalow tucked away in the topiary.

Barwon Heads beach shack sold for $900,000

Two legends of Australian television, Sigrid Thornton (above) and John Howard (below), are reprising their roles as Laura Gibson and Bob Jelly in the beloved 1998 drama series, SeaChange.  
It will be on Channel Nine, not the ABC like last time.
Some twenty years on, Laura (Thornton) returns to the supposed beachside paradise of Pearl Bay.
However, it seems that this time around the script has its as Pearl Bay needing Laura just as much as she needs it.
Its original creator and head writer, Deb Cox, returns as executive producer alongside Sigrid Thornton, Fiona Eager and David Mott. 
SeaChange will commence production in 2019.

“I’m absolutely thrilled to be returning to Pearl Bay. Time has passed and the world has changed, so as we revisit this rich and strange place I trust we’ll all delight in the chance to explore how far we’ve come and how far we still have to go," Sigrid Thornton said.
"I can hardly wait,” she said.
Andy Ryan, Nine’s co-head of drama, said it was two decades ago that SeaChange changed the face of Australian drama.
"Pearl Bay is still a hotbed of romance, mateship and community spirit. With plenty of fresh faces the new challenges, SeaChange is perfect family entertainment.”
SeaChange is produced by ITV and Every Cloud Productions for Nine.
Initially the comedy/drama series was made by Steve Vizard and Andrew Knight's Artist Services as a co-production with the ABC.
The 13-part series featured Thornton as Laura Gibson, a corporate lawyer who, after two decades of juggling career, marriage and motherhood, reaches a turning point when her snaky businessman husband is jailed.
She picks up her life, packs up her belongings and takes her two children to the quiet seaside town of Pearl Bay, where she accepts a job as the local magistrate.
The ferry operator and cafe proprietor Bob Jelly was played by John Howard), the progress-minded mayor. William McInnes is also back.
"Just keen to be working with the old gang again," McInnes, who played Max Connors between episodes 16 to 39, tweeted.
The original cast of characters included Diver Dan, played by David Wenham who is not on the latest cast.
The 1988 production saw filming around Melbourne and at the Victorian coastal town of Barwon Heads.
The first use of the term, seachange was by Shakespeare in The Tempest; referring to a paradigm shift in thinking.
In the modern context the term Seachange was popularised after the 1998 show by demographer Bernard Salt.
"I then unashamedly commandeered the term in my first book The Big Shift, published in 2001, to describe the shift by the Australian people to the coast." Treechange emerged in 2003.

Barwon Heads waterfront trophy home set for private auction

Set on the Bellarine Peninsula, and coming with $4.5 million to $5 million price hopes, is the home of the retired thoroughbred breeder Ted Cockram.
The architect-designed four bedroom home is on the southern tip of the Bluff, not far from the Barwon Heads Golf Club.

Ted Cockram's Barwon Heads home listed for sale

The ever-popular Barwon Heads on the Bellarine Peninsula recorded the highest median house price in regional Victoria, at $835,000 – significantly higher than the metropolitan Melbourne median of $725,000.
It was typified by a <a href="https://www.realestate.com.au/property-house-vic-barwon+heads-121253138" target="_blank">five bedroom cottage that sold at $835,000</a> (below) earlier this year having been listed at $900,000 last November. It last sold at $585,000 in 2009 and in 1999 at $189,500.

With a median house price of $780,000, the Ballarat suburb of Lake Wendouree also exceeded the state’s capital.
The suburb has experienced significant price growth of more than 25 per cent over the year, according to the REIV.
High median house prices were also recorded in a number of coastal towns within commuting distance of Melbourne. 
In the 12 months to June 30, Lorne on the Great Ocean Road was also popular with buyers, recording a median house price of $750,000 – more than double the statewide median of $347,000.
Still on the Surf Coast, Anglesea and Torquay also made the list of most expensive towns in regional Victoria, with median house prices of $685,000 and $680,000 respectively. Both locations have experienced double-digit price growth in the past year. 
Nearby Jan Juc was another strong performer with a median house price of $615,000.
