Salter Brothers’ latest apartment development, Candela Ivanhoe, is a pivotal development that marks a new chapter for Upper Heidelberg Road and the gateway to Ivanhoe.

The mix of accessibility, modern design, and community integration places Candela Ivanhoe at the forefront of Ivanhoe’s urban evolution.

After years of vacancy, and an earlier attempt at a smaller project, the triangular site at 40 Upper Heidelberg Road is undergoing a significant transformation.

Candela will offer a range of living options, from one-bedroom apartments to larger house-sized apartments, in a six-level mid-rise structure — a range of options tailored to meet modern family needs, including multi-generational living.

As the availability of larger family homes diminishes, developments like Candela are increasingly essential in providing ample living spaces for families seeking the convenience of apartment life without sacrificing comfort.

The design, by John Demos, features a modern façade of balconies and windows adorned with a distinctive brass veil, bringing a modern touch to a suburb known for its historical significance.

Positioned at the entrance to Ivanhoe Village, Candela is not only adding 62 new apartments, but is also helping reshape the area’s community feel through a mix of public spaces and commercial offerings that integrate contemporary architecture with the suburb’s rich heritage.

The development includes a public piazza, designed to activate the ground level with a cafe, wine bar, and commercial spaces, fostering community interaction and providing amenities for residents and locals.

This focus on community integration creates a vibrant space that enhances Ivanhoe’s already well-established sense of neighbourhood connectivity.

Candela’s location is a crucial factor in its impact on the area. With a Walk Score of 90, residents can easily access a variety of lifestyle perks, from Ivanhoe Station, which is a six-minute walk away, to the nearby parks, cafes, restaurants, and schools that line Upper Heidelberg Road.

Residents can enjoy the benefits of a connected, car-optional lifestyle, as everyday needs can be met within a short walk.

Ivanhoe Village offers a range of dining options, from the popular café Pinkie to the local wine bar Vino Central and Italian eatery Woodfire Pizza e Cucina.

Residents will also find themselves close to Ivanhoe’s prestigious schools, including Ivanhoe Grammar and Ivanhoe Girls’ Grammar, as well as recreational facilities such as the Ivanhoe Tennis Club and Ivanhoe Golf Course.
