Buyers move into sustainable West Melbourne apartments, Felton & Grimwade
Developer JT Rosslyn are now welcoming buyers into their West Melbourne apartment development, Felton & Grimwade.
Valeo Constructions handled the build of the seven-storey apartment project, which has a rich history dating back to 1942 when it served as the home of Felton, Grimwade & Co. during World War II.
Architecture firm CHT handled the design of Felton & Grimwade, preserving the building's original facade and seamlessly integrating it with the industrial architecture of West Melbourne.
With just 30 apartments, sustainability was core to the design of the boutique building, which boasts an 8.9-star rating. The commitment to sustainability is showcased through various innovative features incorporated into the building's design, aimed at reducing energy consumption, promoting eco-friendly practices, and providing residents with a comfortable living environment.
Energy-efficient appliances and fittings have been incorporated throughout all the residences. By installing high-quality, longer-lasting appliances with better functional features, the development aims to lower energy and water consumption, thus reducing utility bills and minimising its environmental impact.
Waste management is an essential part of sustainability, and Felton & Grimwade addresses this through a two-way waste chute system. The convenient feature encourages residents to separate and dispose of their waste responsibly, leading to improved recycling rates and reduced waste sent to landfills. It also helps combat odours and pests, contributing to residents' overall health and well-being.
To add a touch of greenery to the development, planter boxes with automated irrigation systems have been incorporated. These systems ensure that plants receive adequate water while minimising the need for maintenance. Residents can also enjoy the benefits of winter gardens, which provide a space to connect with nature while being protected from the elements, as well as flooding the apartments with natural light.
By maximising natural light, the development reduces the need for artificial lighting, leading to further energy savings.
Using durable materials in construction was yet another crucial element of the eco-friendly development, with the materials used throughout the construction process reducing the need for constant maintenance and repairs, saving money on long-term costs, and increasing the overall lifespan of the building.
Natural air ventilation through louvres also contributes to the building's energy efficiency. By eliminating the need for air conditioning, the development reduces energy costs and improves indoor air quality by introducing fresh air into living spaces.
With greener transport options on the rise throughout the country, Felton & Grimwade also incorporates electric car charging stations, providing convenience for residents who own electric vehicles while promoting cleaner and more sustainable transportation. This initiative aligns with efforts to reduce the building's carbon footprint and decrease dependence on fossil fuels.
