The trend of lower density, high-rise towers continues to gather pace at the latest Gold Coast apartment tower launch.

GDI Group, headed by long-time Gold Coast developer Dean Gallagher, are soon to launch Drift Residences, a 27-level tower designed by Plus Architecture at 16-18 Hughes Avenue, near the central hub of Tedder Avenue in Main Beach.

There is approval for 44 apartments, but GDI has recently submitted a minor change notice to the Gold Coast City Council to add a further two apartments, and add another three levels to the building to make it 30 storeys.

The three-bedroom, 262 sqm apartments, just two per floor, will run from the second level to level 22.

From there will be the penthouse collection, five four-bedroom apartments spanning the whole floor and offering 531 sqm each.

There will be a single two-level penthouse crowning the tower, which will have 1,109 sqm and have five bedrooms, five bathrooms, and its own private roof terrace with a plunge pool.

Residents shared amenity will focus around the wellbeing centre, which will feature an infinity pool, sauna, steam and massage rooms, a spa, cold therpay pool, health club, yoga room, a lounge with fireplace, and an outdoor barbecue area.

“Our vision for Drift Residences has grown from a desire to create a timeless and enduring building that reflects the beauty and prestige of its Main Beach surrounds and will be admired for generations to come,” GDI Group managing director Dean Gallagher said.

“The planning stage, realised in collaboration with Plus Architecture, has been meticulous.

“Our focus on prioritising both luxury and wellbeing has seen the emergence of an innovative design that optimises the comfort of its inhabitants.”

Gallgher intends to keep one of the apartments for himself.

“Drift Residences will set a new Gold Coast benchmark for intuitive design,” he said.

“I look forward to personally taking up residence in this remarkable building and seeing it fulfill its promise as the epitome of a Main Beach lifestyle.”

Plus has drawn inspiration form the coastal landscape. Danny Juric, director at Plus Architecture, said

"Drift Residences will provide all the convenience you’d expect from a home in the suburbs, but with one clear advantage, unprecedented views and prime location,” Danny Juric, Director of Plus Architecture, said.

Deborah Provost, of DP Project Marketing, who will be marketing the apartments, is expecting discerning, lifestyle-seeking downsizers and luxury holiday home buyers.

“We believe Drift Residences will set a benchmark for Main Beach that appeals to the luxury downsizer,” Provost said.

“We believe our market will come predominantly from local and Brisbane downsizers and undoubtedly from interstate markets when the borders re-open.”
