Probuild Delivers Final Major Stage of The Glen Development
One of Australia’s most successful construction companies, Probuild, has delivered the final major stage of The Glen’s $430 million redevelopment comprising of 50 new fashion and lifestyle stores, a new formatted two storey David Jones department store and an indoor-outdoor dining precinct with more than 10 new restaurants.
This is the fourth and final stage of Vicinity Centres’ The Glen, designed by Melbourne-based design house NH Architecture, since the redevelopment began in 2017, and is now home to over 250 exciting fashion, fresh food, beauty and dining retailers to offer shoppers across its two levels.
Redeveloped to bring a more premium customer experience to shoppers in Melbourne’s south-east, The Glen now blends the latest retail store formats and fitouts, with luxurious amenities and an open air two-level dining precinct, joining the new Food Gallery, opened in late 2018.
“The opening of this latest and the final major stage of The Glen is a wonderful achievement for Probuild and our partner, Vicinity Centres,” said Probuild Victoria’s Managing Director, Luke Stambolis.
“We’ve enjoyed a relationship with Vicinity that extends past 30 years, having built every major retail stage of Chadstone. We’re pleased to have now delivered all four stages at The Glen and see this important retail and dining destination beautifully transformed and extended for an improved customer experience. This final major stage at The Glen was completed by Probuild on program, to an exceptionally high level of quality and safely - attributes Probuild is renowned for,” Mr. Stambolis said.
The Probuild team’s involvement with The Glen will continue and turn skyward with construction recently commencing on Golden Age Group’s Sky Garden project to be located atop the centre. This joint venture between Golden Age Group and Probuild will see Australia’s biggest residential project being built over a retail destination, with more than 500 new apartments in three towers underway and due for completion in 2021.
The three towers will be above the retail podium, each with 18, 10 and 11 levels of one, two and three bedroom apartments on offer. Architects Rothelowman design the towers in collaboration with DKO Architecture who designed the interiors, creating a unique destination and one of many projects across Australia fusing retail with mixed use developments.
One of Australia’s most respected architecture studios, Rothelowman, has truly created a development that brings Glen Waverley into 21st century living. Sky Gardens comprises of a 4,000sqm oasis of elevated curated open gardens with North and South Gardens being distinctive from one another.
North Gardens have a more social focus with a children’s play space, bar and lounge, private kitchen and vegetable gardens. The Southern Gardens feature a range of outdoor spaces, from large lawns to private dining spaces. Outdoor kitchens, a fitness area and water features nestle amongst the lush greenery.
With interiors designed in collaboration by DKO Architecture and Golden Age Group, Sky Gardens becomes a masterpiece with the latest design trends and amenities. Amenities include private podium oasis garden with bars, lounges, a relaxation zone, kitchen garden, play and picnic area, private cabanas, meditation, wellness area, cinema room, a games room and pool.
“I see big cities in Australia especially, turning towards these types of locations for people to live and so the architecture tends to respond to that issue in itself. It means people can shop and be entertained right below their apartment. To live above these projects, like The Glen, is an opportunity that very few people will come across in the short term.” says architect and Rothelowman Principal Shane Rothe.
The towers are expected to be completed by 2021 and when completed will be one of Australia’s first and largest mixed use development above a retail centre, creating an environment of entertainment and vibrancy.
