Sydney developer Coronation Property and burgeoning fitness gym One Playground have teamed up for Coronation's latest apartment development in Merrylands.

One Playground, which was rebrand from Fitness Playground last year, will take up residence as Coronation's first anchor retail tenant at Mason & Main, the masterplanned, mixed-use precinct, part of which will home Sydney's largest build-to-rent (BTR) development with Coronation’s new venture, NATION.

In early 2024, the multi-award winning One Playground is preparing to open a 2,700 sqm gym in Merrylands that incorporates inspiring design into the widest variety of fitness and wellness experiences imaginable. One Playground Merrylands will be the brand’s largest facility, and the first in Western Sydney.

"I feel very connected to Western Sydney and recognise these communities are crying out for high-quality brands and experiences," Justin Ashley, CEO of One Playground said.

"Our team is excited to challenge the norm that a premium wellness and fitness brand only belongs in the inner city or beachside suburbs. I cannot wait to bring our concept to Merrylands."

Ashley described Mason & Main’s architecture as iconic and memorable.

"It’s not something you expect to see in Merrylands—which is why we love it,” Ashley says.

“For One Playground, creating a unique experience and design is in our DNA. We will never create two ‘gyms’ that look the same. It must be curated to suit the building, and appeal to the local community. Being handed a building with soaring ceilings, beautiful brickwork and stunning metal framed arched windows creates the perfect canvas to design a truly aspirational space.”

One Playground Merrylands will feature over 2,700 sqm across two levels, comprising five training studios, a Pilates studio, state-of-the-art wellness facilities and luxury change rooms.

“We’re excited to introduce One Playground Merrylands as Mason & Main’s inaugural tenant," Coronation Managing Director Joseph Nahas said.

"Their expertise in promoting fitness and well-being aligns with our commitment to creating a vibrant lifestyle destination for Merrylands.

“One Playground's arrival represents our dedication to bringing the best amenities to Mason & Main residents and the broader Western-Sydney community. This calibre of tenant also sets the scene for the level of exceptional businesses soon to be announced."

Mason & Main will have a 9,000 sqm retail and dining precinct, blending wellness, retail and dining, a lifestyle that Merrylands hasn’t seen before. The precinct will host around 30 retail and dining tenancies, including an Eat Street – a thriving day and night dining experience, beauty and wellness outlets, childcare, and various providers and lifestyle boutiques.

With pedestrian-only laneways, 147 dedicated retail car spaces and EV charging stations, the precinct caters to every modern convenience and blends seamlessly with the cultural diversity of the surrounding community. Mason & Main will be just 350 metres to Merrylands train station and transport, schools, and employment centres.

Coronation launched its subsidiary company, NATION, at the start of October last year, which will focus on operating a pipeline of vibrant new BTR communities across Sydney. The developer projects it will create 1,500 BTR properties available across three key Sydney locations by 2025, with Mason & Main being the largest.

“We’ve established NATION as a stand-alone business to specifically meet the growing demand for secure, flexible rental solutions in a Sydney market which has become increasingly inaccessible for a vast number of renters,” Nahas added.

“NATION will put consumers first and give power back to renters by putting them in the driving seat with choice, security, and flexibility in how they live. It will provide them access to brand-new homes without needing a mortgage.”
