111 Castlereagh: The restoration and transformation of a Sydney landmark
111 Castlereagh signifies the transformative redevelopment of one of Sydney's esteemed heritage structures.
Developed by Cbus Property, the residence is situated atop the former David Jones department store, originally constructed in 1938.
The original department store will be restored and converted into a nine-level podium, more common in new developments, with the new structure rising from it. The department store will home a mix of commercial office space and retail.
111 Castlereagh comprises an exclusive collection of 98 apartments, varying from one to four bedrooms, including a limited collection of four four-bedroom skyhomes, in the heart of Sydney.
As the cityscape has evolved, the experience and architecture of the former store have continued to resonate with Sydneysiders. In homage to this cherished heritage, the new tower's organic forms establish a meaningful connection with its historical foundation, honouring the city's past, present, and future.
"Rising above heritage and Hyde Park, 111 Castlereagh will stand out on the Sydney skyline, yet feel as if it has always been part of the city fabric."
Adrian Pozzo, Cbus Property CEO
A remarkable feat of engineering and design, the new curvilinear tower of 111 Castlereagh references futuristic forms seemingly suspended over, yet integrated into, the historic foundation below.
Crafted exclusively with custom-designed details and curated selections by FJCstudio, each residence at 111 Castlereagh is bathed in natural light, creating an ethereal atmosphere and a sense of weightlessness in the sky.
"We create a building form which is very unusual, it seems like a form that floats in the air within the heritage building. Below is an atrium space which draws natural light around this form deep into the interior right down to the ground floor."
FJCstudio Director Richard Francis-Jones.
Residents can choose from three interior design palettes, each offering a selection of statement stones and exclusive options.
The kitchen island, a work of art in itself, serves as a stunning centrepiece of every home, which can be tailored to the resident's choice of hand-finished stone for the Skyhomes.
Floor-to-ceiling windows in the bedrooms frame a private panorama of treetops and the harbour.
The Skyhomes' master ensuite features his and her vanity with stone benchtops extending to the curved stone walls separating the shower and toilet and custom-designed 111 Castlereagh tapware and fittings by fjcinteriors.
Custom-designed walk-in wardrobes, butler's pantries, and multiple bathrooms provide ample storage and practicalities for the Skyhomes.
111 Castlereagh has been carefully designed with rare and exclusive wellness spaces, amenities and services for all residents to access and use.
Residents will enjoy dedicated concierge services day and night, and access to a private wellness space overlooking Hyde Park with a heated open-air pool, fitness studio, and yoga deck.
The residents' lounge and dining room open onto a leafy terrace, perfect for private celebrations. The state-of-the-art cellar, exclusive to a select few residents, offers the perfect setting for savouring a glass with family and friends. The Archibald Room provides a backdrop for private dining experiences or transforms into an AV-enabled boardroom for essential meetings by day.
The rooftop gardens with secluded views overlooking the harbour add to the allure of 111 Castlereagh. Perfectly situated at the top end of Hyde Park, it offers stunning views across Sydney's oldest park and the iconic fashion precinct.
111 Castlereagh places residents at the very centre of all that Sydney offers. The development is surrounded by several train stations, metro and light rail for easy connectivity within and outside of Sydney.
11 Castlereagh is currently under construction by Scentre Group.
