Multiplex has achieved yet another construction milestone amidst the current pandemic. Premier Tower has officially topped out at 246 metres, adding another landmark development to the Melbourne skyline.

The building's facade features a distinctive wave-like structure, with curved glazing offering panoramic city views. Designed by iconic architect Elenberg Fraser, Premier Tower's undulating form takes cues from Beyoncé's 2013 music video 'Ghost' where dancers cloaked in fabric move in a wave-like fashion.

"For those more on the art than science side, we will reveal that the form does pay homage to something more aesthetic – we're going to trust you've seen the music video for Beyoncé's Ghost,"

Due to the complex nature of the design, the facade proved to be a challenge for Multiplex, requiring innovative construction approaches to achieve the desired end result. Andrew Fortey, project manager at PDS Group also commented that Multiplex handled the delivery of the tower remarkably, given the chain of events that have impacted Australia this year.

"Multiplex has done a great job navigating through a tough period hampered by the impact of the bushfires earlier this year, and then the impact of COVID-19 on the supply chain and on-site productivity. We are very pleased with Multiplex's professionalism in reaching this pivotal construction milestone."

Fragrance Group's $315 million development features 79-levels and 796 apartments. The tower also includes a six-level podium, which will be house 172 hotel rooms, with guest facilities including a pool, lounge, bar and restaurant.

The dedicated apartment levels rise above the short-stay accommodation and exclusive resident-only facilities.

On-site amenities include:

  • Indoor heated pool
  • Sauna
  • Gymnasiums
  • Barbeque areas
  • Virtual golf
  • Billiards/poker rooms
  • Theatre rooms

"We are delighted to reach this milestone and are now a step closer to delivering one of the most distinctive new residential towers in the Melbourne CBD. It truly is a one-of-a-kind building and sets a new benchmark in residential design."

Graham Cottam, Regional Managing Director at Multiplex

Completion of the Premier Tower is on track for late 2020.
