The Melbourne Cricket Ground has secured the most expensive square on the board in the launch of the limited edition Melbourne Monopoly.

The hub of Melbourne, the MCG has been partnered with Federation Square as the other most expensive property.

Lord Mayor Robert Doyle unveiled the game at Federation Square today.

"Being named the World’s Most Liveable City for five years in a row, it makes sense for Melbourne to have its own version of the world’s most famous board game,” he said.

Reid Herbert from Winning Moves Australia, the game’s manufacturers advised it was the public who resoundingly favoured the ‘G in their voting.

"Fed Square was a popular second choice reflecting its standing as the pulsing heart of Melbourne.”

In all, 22 Melbourne and greater Melbourne property landmarks were selected to replace the famous London streets from the original 1935 board after the public was invited to offer up their suggestions via email and Facebook earlier in the year.

The yellow section of the board showcases the most popular and famous beaches, Bells and St Kilda as well as Brighton Bathing Boxes.

Indicative of Melbournians passion for sports, the orange properties are where the three sporting hot spots the Etihad Stadium, Rod Laver Arena and Flemington Racecourse are located.

The light blue locations boast the regions’ best tourist destinations Great Ocean Road and Dandenong Ranges alongside Eureka Skydeck.

The red properties targets were assigned to the arts and culture of Melbourne. The National Gallery of Victoria, Arts Centre Melbourne and Royal Exhibition Building all feature.

The Emporium Melbourne takes the traditional Pall Mall spot and is partnered with other shopping hotspots Queen Vic Market and Chapel Street Precinct.

Green is the most eclectic portfolio representing University of Melbourne, Shrine of Remembrance and the Melbourne Zoo.

The brown squares reflect the CBD’s vibrant heart, with street art filled Hosier Lane taking the traditional Whitechapel position and Hardware Lane for food on the other.

The traditional railway spots have been claimed by Flinders Street Station, Southern Cross Station, Parliament Station and Melbourne Central Station.

The Melbourne edition will available at all good toy stores for RRP $49.95 from November 10.

The special edition will also feature tokens iconic of Melbourne. A tram, take away coffee cup and a Sherrin AFL football are a few that replace the traditional race car, dog and thimble.
