The billionaire founder of Platinum Asset Management Kerr Neilson has spent $5.3 million on a waterfront reserve Castlecrag trophy home.

The mid-century modern home, with views of Middle Harbour, sold at June auction.

Blindley House was designed by architect John M Brindley in 1955 as his own residence.

New owners moved in during the 1960s and added an extension.

It was sold by the retired Sydney surgeon Frank Fisher and his wife Penelope, who had lived in the home for more than 50 years.

The six bedroom, two bathroom house sits on a 1,581 sqm block.
