The Conte family have sold their long-held vineyards in South Australia's McLaren Vale to local wine producer Dowie Doole.

The three Conte Estate Wines vineyards near Aldinga were planted by the family in 1965.

Since last year the 53 hectares came with a $2.5 million price tag.

Some 35 hectares are planted to shiraz, cabernet sauvignon, pinot noir, gewurztraminer and chardonnay varietals.

Antonino and Giulia Conte came to McLaren Vale from Italy in the 1950s.
