Author David Malouf lists Chippendale terrace
Internationally acclaimed author David Malouf is selling his long held Chippendale terrace.
It's been Malouf's home for the last three decades. He paid $175,000 for the terrace in 1985, the year he published his memoirs, 12 Edmondstone Street.
The Myrtle Street home is being marketed as the matriarch of the street due to its rare six metre wide presence.
Recently updated with a fresh facade, the three level terrace has four bedrooms, two with brick fires, and the master bedroom with a classic front balcony.
The formal dining, living area and timber topped kitchen open to a rear leafy courtyard.
LJ Hooker Newtown agents Nick Moraitis and Edward Burns have set an October 28 auction.
Terrace prices on the street have traded as high as $1.9 million. A residential warehouse recently fetched $3.2 million.
Malouf is downsizing and set to spend more time interest closer to family.
The Brisbane born and bred writer, who received the Australia Council Award for Lifetime Achievement in Literature last year, is in his 80s.
He graduated from the University of Queensland in 1955. His first novel, Johnno (1975), is the semi-autobiographical tale.
Malouf recently commented on how writers who typically had a wish for solitude, now needed to go out and put on some kind of act.
"You need to be a person for whom solitude is a happy state, because that's the only way of getting the work done," he noted.
