International student surge ramps up: Pete Wargent

EXPERT OBSERVER

Net permanent and long-term arrivals sat at +299,670 over the year to October 2019, pointing towards strong ongoing population growth.

Short-term visitors

Short-term visitors from China and India have resumed their upwards trend.

And, as previously noted here, study is a big drawcard, with a record number of temporary visas on issue for international students.

I've been watching with interest to see whether there's been more action from Hong Kong, but if there is it's not evident in short-term visitor figures.

The main beneficiary of the student trend looks likely to be Victoria.

Not much new here, except confirmation that more student visitors from Asia continue to come in record numbers, and that population growth looks likely to remain at around +1.6 per cent or thereabouts.
