Construction firm John Holland Group have been awarded the $735 million contract to deliver the new Sydney Football Stadium.
The total estimated cost for the new stadium is now $828 million, which includes demolition, contingency and other associated project costs.
It's almost $100 million over the $729 million budget promised. 
Lendlease <a href="https://www.urban.com.au/news/93611-lendlease-announced-as-builder-of-new-sydney-football-stadium" target="_blank">originally held the contract</a>, however earlier this year they said they could not complete the project in time or on budget.
It is slated for completion in time for the 2022 NRL Grand Final which is always held in October.
Premier Gladys Berejiklian said the Government’s decision to re-tender the construction stage of the project was the right one.

“By going back to the market, we have delivered on our promise to achieve better value for the people of NSW,” Berejiklian said.
“We have also ensured that the new stadium will be the highest quality, strengthening our ability to attract the very best sporting and entertainment events.”
“While the estimated total cost for this build is higher than what we originally anticipated, it is much better value than what we would have achieved had we not gone back to the market,” Ms Berejiklian said. “It is important to deliver the world class stadium we promised to attract the best events to our State.”
Acting Minister for Sport Geoff Lee said John Holland had committed to delivering the new Sydney Football Stadium in time for the 2022 NRL Grand Final.
“We’ll be working closely with the NRL and our other important sporting partners to finalise a schedule of fixtures for the second half of 2022,” Lee said.
“We’ve seen the benefits contemporary stadiums bring, with the opening of Bankwest Stadium in Parramatta, and we are confident our investment in the Sydney Football Stadium will deliver the same long-term benefits to NSW.”
Minister for Planning Rob Stokes confirmed the project had received planning approvals.
“We are getting on with the job of delivering the best sporting and cultural facilities so that we can create the jobs and investment our State needs,” Stokes said.

Sydney Football Stadium to cost $100 million over budget

Western Sydney's new Bankwest Stadium has received praise from hospitality company Accor, who claim the project is leading to a positive local economic impact.
According to a report commissioned by the City of Parramatta Council, Parramatta’s local economy receives a million-dollar boost every time an event is held at the new Bankwest Stadium.
Economic analysis was undertaken by Micromex Research, which revealed three sporting events at the stadium generated an estimated total of $2.92 million for the Parramatta Local Government Area, so far this year.

Since the opening of Bankwest Stadium, hotels in Parramatta and surrounding areas are reporting apparently unprecedented occupancy levels on event days that are continuing to climb to around 80%, up around 20%, when compared to non-event days. 
Bankwest Stadium has also had an impact on incremental spend, with Novotel Sydney Parramatta, for example, reporting an increase of over 50% spent at the restaurant, bar and parking, on game days. 
Simon McGrath, Chief Operating Officer for Accor Pacific, oversees over 400 hotels across Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, French Polynesia, and Hawaii and says the NSW Government’s decision to invest in Bankwest Stadium as a world-class venue is a great tourism success story, which extends well-beyond the stadium itself.

The project has not been without controversy however, with fans criticising the design when it opened earlier this year, and suggesting that some seating areas had obstructed views of play.

Parramatta's new Bankwest Stadium hailed as economic "success story”

The NSW Government have shortlisted Multiplex and John Holland for the construction of the new Sydney Football Stadium following a blowout with Lendlease last month.
Lendlease was axed for the reconstruction of the stadium shortly after The Australian revealed that Lendlease was chasing tens of millions of dollars more to finish the project when it told the government it was unable to lower the cost.
However Lendlease will continue to oversee stage one demolition work at Allianz Stadium, which is on track for completion by the end of the year.
Minister for Sport John Sidoti said that the delivery of the new Sydney Football Stadium remains on time and on budget.
Both organisations have been invited to participate in a competitive tender process to deliver stage two of the project.
John Sidoti said, “The winning bidder will be announced later this year, following the receipt of stage two planning approval and completion of the tender evaluation.”
“We know that if we want to continue attracting global events we need our stadiums to be the best in the world but the NSW public expects us to negotiate the best price." 
“The NSW Government’s plan delivers the experience fans deserve. The refurbished Stadium Australia will move 46,000 seats up to 25 metres closer to the action to create more atmosphere,” Mr Sidoti said.

NSW Government shortlist Mutiplex and John Holland after Lendlease stadium construction reversal

<a href="https://www.urban.com.au/developers/lendlease-development">Lendlease</a> have been commissioned to build the new Sydney Football Stadium which will replace the Allianz Stadium at Moore Park.

Minister for Sport Stuart Ayres said reaching this major milestone has paved the way for the redevelopment of the Stadium to commence in January 2019.

“NSW deserves the best stadiums and the new Sydney Football Stadium will make us number one again,” Ayres said.&nbsp;

“NSW needs it, we’re delivering it. It’s time to get it done.&nbsp;

“There will be no F6 Extension, no Western Harbour Tunnel and Beaches Link, no Sydenham to Bankstown Metro rail upgrade and a hole where the Sydney Football Stadium used to be.

“Labor have made it clear they would rather have a hole in the ground than a world class stadium that attracts events and provides a huge boost for jobs and tourism.

“We want the world’s best and biggest events right here in NSW. Labor want to give away the NRL Grand Final for the first time in the State’s history.”

Treasurer Dominic Perrottet said the <a href="https://www.urban.com.au/new-apartments/nsw">NSW</a> Budget was in a strong financial position allowing the Government to invest billions in projects right across the State.

“We are building the next generation of infrastructure for NSW, with more than $87 billion being invested over the next four years,” Perrottet said.

“NSW deserves world class sporting stadiums as part of that commitment. All Labor can offer are Michael "Grinch" Daley's list of cancelled projects.”

Sydney Cricket Ground Trust CEO Kerrie Mather said the new Sydney Football Stadium will be a nationally and globally competitive venue, ensuring that <a href="https://www.urban.com.au/new-apartments/sydney">Sydney</a> remains a preferred destination for major local and international events.

“The key difference will be modern facilities that will make it safe, secure and far more welcoming for fans, customers and the community in the future.”&nbsp;

The project will create more than 600 construction jobs and support around 300 jobs once operational.&nbsp;

The stadium is expected to be complete in early 2022.
