Former deputy Liberal Party leader and Howard Government minister Peter Reith and wife Kerrie are selling their Trenavin, their private getaway in rural Victoria.
The Stonyford home, which they bought a decade ago, has been their weekender for the last five years after they built a three bedroom homestead, turning it into a rural retreat.
They had a draughtsman design the house to be functional yet comfortable.
The open plan living and dining areas includes a Cheminee Phillippe feature fireplace, an open slat timber staircase which reveals a reading room.
Kerrie says Peter bought the 48 hectare estate, just over two hours from Melbourne, unseen in person.

“He was overseas working for the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development at the time so it was a couple of years before he could come back to the property and work out the best design for the house.” On weekends away from the office, the Reiths slowly transformed what was a vacant block into a private lock-and-leave home with around 16 hectares of rolling paddocks ideal for livestock.  Ray White Rural Camperdown’s Alistair Tune is marketing the property. “The property has been really important to us, particularly in the busier times of our careers,” Mr Reith said. “It’s been a really special getaway where we can just sit and relax as much or as little as we want to. It’s almost nurturing, and as soon as you drive in you just feel yourself unwind. With busy lives, that’s a great feeling.”

After stepping aside from his political commitments, Peter was recently made a member of the Order of Australia for significant service to the Australian parliament, and to the community of Victoria. The pair (pictured below) now wish to spend their time seeing more of the world and less of it working their hobby farm, which is why they’ve decided to place it on the market.

Retired politician Peter Reith lists rural Victorian retreat

The former Today show host Matt Lauer can keep his New Zealand ranch.
The NZ authorities concluded last week there wasn't enough evidence he'd breached a "good character" condition after sexual misconduct accusations saw him depart the broadcaster NBC last November.
His termination triggered an investigation by New Zealand authorities, who require foreign buyers of important assets to be of good character.
The provision is broad and includes criminal convictions as well as anything else that authorities decide reflects poorly on an owner's integrity.
Lauer last year purchased a lease for the Hunter Valley Station, a 10,750 hectare farm with lakeside ranch near Queenstown
The property runs 13,000 cattle and merino sheep.
It runs alongside a river that's filled with trout and salmon.
New Zealand's Overseas Investment Office (OIO) said that as part of its investigation, it had taken sworn statements from Lauer and had been in touch with NBC.
"Mr. Lauer has not been charged with any offence, nor convicted, and the evidence available to the OIO at this time does not establish that Mr. Lauer is unfit to continue to hold the asset," said Lisa Barrett, an official at Land Information New Zealand, in a statement. "However, in reaching this position, we do not condone the inappropriate way that Mr. Lauer has behaved."
Last year, Lauer and wife Annette Roque said in a statement they'd be visiting New Zealand for several years, and "every time we visit, we feel lucky to be in a place of such endless beauty, inspiration and adventure."

Matt Lauer can keep New Zealand ranch after OIO investigation

It's not enough to just have a beach weekender anymore.
Tech billionaire Michael Cannon-Brookes and wife Annie have now added a rural retreat.
Their weekender Joadja Creek Farm, cost the Atlassian co-founder $3.3 million.
It is 390 hectare hobby farm in the small heritage registered town of Joadja, some 140 kilometres from Sydney in the Southern Highlands. 
The secluded farm is surrounded by native bushland, with horse riding trails and wildlife aplenty.
The four bedroom home was architecturally designed in 1996 by the Haege family with wrap-around verandahs and sits amid an orchard.
Its on Joadja Creek with water holes, three dams and a bore.
Brookes has been Centennial Park based since 2015 when he secured Braelin, the $12 million Lang Road trophy home.
He owns a $8.7 million Palm Beach holiday home.
The couple own a Centennial Park home bought from luxury car dealer Ian Pagent and wife Marianne for $12 million.
The Californian bungalow style home built in 1918 for Sir Allen Taylor, a former lord mayor of Sydney is set for a makeover given the family's need for more bedrooms.
They have just spent $7.05 million on the Double Bay trophy home SeaDragon, the 1936 Professor Leslie Wilkinson designed Mediterranean style villa while they await the renovations.
It was sold by QC Francis Douglas through Sally Hampshire at Laing+Simmons inconjunction with Sothebys International.
