Filmmaker Jan Chapman, whose The Piano raked in three Academy Awards, has bought an apartment in Potts Point.
She's paid $1.4 million for the apartment in the Santa Rosa complex on Macleay Street.
It was advertised as having a potential tenant at $800 a week, which would reflect a three percent yield if Chapman was investing.
Wrapped in alfresco spaces and terraces, the two bedroom apartment has views of the Sydney Harbour.
BresicWhitney Darlinghurst agents Christopher Breedon and Melinda Antella sold the apartment after just nine days with a buyers guide of $1,275,000. 
In July Chapman listed the Paddington headquarters of her production house Saddleback production that she shares with her husband Stephen O'Rourke.
They paid $750,000 in 1995 for the three storey Victorian terrace that failed to sell after having a guide of $3.9 million. 
It was reported the couple didn't live in the property, but at their Coogee home they've owned since 1995.
Chapman is the only female filmmaker to receive the Palme d'Or.
Earlier this year at the Oscar's a picture of Chapman was accidentally used to honour the late Australian designer Janet Patterson.
Chapman worked as a producer with Patterson and director Jane Campion on 2 Friends, The Piano, Holy Smoke and Bright Star.
