Jackman Street's most recent sale was $895,000 in July this year for another three bedroom 1930s cottage that last sold at $446,000 in 2008.
Nick and Chris, the Channel 7 Melbourne House Rules brothers handed over the keys to fellow renovation contestants of their Californian bungalow in Preston in 2013.
It came with a mortgage of $524,000 which would have beeen wiped off by Channel 7 if they had won the renovation competition series hosted by Johanna Griggs.

The 1930s bungalow went to July 2012 Ray White auction without success, subsequently listed at $580,000.
The brothers paid $555,000 in August 2012 for the 1930s bungalow on its 475 square metre block.
"A lot of our money went into our deposit," <a href="/news/23097-preston-house-rules" target="_blank">the Stavropoulos brothers told the House Rules viewers</a>. 
There was a subsequent $49,000 development application with Darebin Council.
The brothers, who also appeared on Channel 9’s Reno Rumble, have made a few minor alterations since the show, including extending the outdoor area.
No price guidance is being given.
The median price of houses in Preston has jumped 8.8 per cent over the past 12 months to $700,000, <a href="https://www.urban.com.au/property-observer" target="_blank">according to CoreLogic RP Data</a>, having been at around $575,000 when the house was bought in mid-2012.

Preston House Rules house hits the Melbourne auction market

This week, the Seven Network was <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/media/2019/oct/22/house-rules-channel-seven-ordered-to-pay-compensation-to-reality-show-contestant" target="_blank">found liable</a> to pay a workers’ compensation claim brought by Nicole Prince, one of the contestants on its renovation reality television show, <a href="https://www.imdb.com/title/tt2931524/?ref_=ttep_ep_tt" target="_blank">House Rules</a>.
Prince suffered a major depressive episode, and symptoms consistent with post traumatic stress disorder after she and her partner were cast as the “mean girls” in the 2017 season of the series.
She provided convincing evidence program directors manipulated series content to ensure the pair appeared to be hypercritical of other contestants, drawing not only their hostility, but also an avalanche of hateful social media comment. (Channel Seven <a href="https://www.urban.com.au/property-observer" target="_blank">refused</a> to remove the offensive and often violent posts.)
The case before the <a href="https://www.urban.com.au/property-observer" target="_blank">New South Wales Compensation Commission</a> concerned a statutory claim under the <a href="https://www.legislation.nsw.gov.au/#/view/act/1987/70/whole" target="_blank">Workers Compensation Act 1987 (NSW)</a> for medical expenses.
However it raises the prospect of potential common law claims by other reality TV “stars” who have been treated badly. In the wake of the ruling, fellow reality TV contestants including <a href="https://www.news.com.au/entertainment/tv/reality-tv/mafs-stars-are-considering-legal-action-following-landmark-seven-ruling/news-story/4c547bacaf2195a45ebafb6118da15b9" target="_blank">Tracey Jewel</a> from Married at First Sight have floated the possibility of legal action.
On the books
Prince’s success depended upon a finding she was an employee according to the <a href="https://www.fairwork.gov.au/how-we-will-help/templates-and-guides/fact-sheets/rights-and-obligations/independent-contractors-and-employees" target="_blank">common law test</a> that defines employment. The difference between an employee and independent contractor is based on multiple factors and has developed with court decisions over time. To make a determination, courts look at each case and the overall “vibe” of the relationship between the parties.

Employees are also owed duties of care under <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tort">tort law</a> (which determines civil liability) and <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Contract">contract</a> law (which governs agreements).
An employer who exposes an employee to unnecessary risk of foreseeable harm can also be held liable at common law for damages that can extend to lost earnings. In this case, Prince gave evidence she had been unable to find employment following her disastrous experience on the show.
The prospect for these kinds of claims has long been <a href="https://scholarship.shu.edu/sports_entertainment/vol23/iss1/5/">recognised</a> in the United States, where claims by contestants (or their surviving family members) have been brought against television production companies, although rarely successfully.
In 2017, the US reality dating show Bachelor in Paradise was <a href="https://www.vulture.com/2017/07/bachelor-in-paradise-timeline-of-allegations">suspended</a> for nine days pending allegations of sexual misconduct (later dismissed). Two contestants on the show had engaged in sexual activity under the influence of alcohol.
The scandal <a href="http://www.cardozoaelj.com/2019/02/10/corporate-responsibility-reality-show-participants/">raised the question</a> of when reality TV producers should intervene to protect contestants.
The sticking point in the US cases has been the ability of networks to disclaim employer status in their written contracts with contestants. In Australia, however, employment status cannot be avoided by contractual disclaimers if the court decides the relationship bears the hallmarks of employment, established in a number of <a href="https://www.propertyobserver.com.au/http://eresources.hcourt.gov.au/showCase/2001/HCA/44">High Court cases</a>.
House Rules
The Workers Compensation Commission found Prince was engaged for remuneration ($500 a week plus $500 in allowances) to serve Seven’s business. Seven exerted control over when she worked, what she wore, and which tools she used.
As a featured personality, Prince was an integral part of their business. She was required to provide exclusive service, and give up her normal occupation, during filming.
Finally, Prince bore none of the entrepreneurial risks that would be involved were she engaged in her own business.
These factors were said to “overwhelmingly” indicate she was employed by Seven.

Once it was established she was an employee it was a straightforward matter to find her psychiatric illness was a consequence of her employment. While the Commission made no findings as to fault (statutory Workers Compensation claims are not fault-based), certain observations made in the reasons suggest Prince may well be able to demonstrate the harm she suffered was foreseeable.
The commission <a href="https://www.urban.com.au/property-observer">concluded</a> Seven deliberately manipulated her on-screen portrayal as a nasty person, and was made aware of the torrent of abuse she was receiving as a consequence. It refused to take any steps to ameliorate the harm, no doubt because this kind of conflict and outrage is a calculated part of such shows’ audience appeal.
A legal landmark
This appears to be the first successful claim of this nature in Australia.
It’s possible claims brought by contestants who are physically harmed could be settled by the insurers.
This one, involving the infliction of psychological harm, opens a wide door to more potential claims from contestants who naively expect to be able to present themselves as their usual loveable selves on the television, and end up as social pariahs.
The amount Prince is to be compensated has not yet been determined. But in 2011, a NSW woman who suffered psychiatric illness and was unable work after she had been subjected to workplace bullying and harassment was <a href="https://www.smh.com.au/national/nsw/theres-more-to-reveal-says-orkopoulos-whistleblower-20110602-1fizc">awarded $438,000</a>.
This case also raises some very interesting questions about whether reality TV contestants might bring other claims related to employment. Minimum wages, perhaps? Or superannuation entitlements?
Prior to the Prince decision, the Law Society of NSW published a <a href="https://lsj.com.au/articles/the-legal-implications-of-reality-television/">tongue-in-cheek piece</a> that flagged a shopping list of potential legal claims reality stars might pursue.

Wendy Moore has announced her departure from Seven’s House Rules, just two weeks aft she'd indicated she'd be back.
Moore’s announcement came just months after House Rules host Johanna Griggs announced her departure.
“After seven incredible years on the amazing show that is House Rules, it is time to say goodbye,” Moore posted on social media on the weekend.
“I have loved every single moment and am really proud to have worked on a show that has literally changed lives and inspired us all to take on big, scary challenges. I have made so many friends, seen so many parts of Australia and learnt so much that I will always be grateful to Channel Seven for.”
Moore paid tribute to her colleagues on the program, starting with Johanna Griggs and then also Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen, Joe Snell, Drew Heath, Carolyn Burns-McCrave and Jamie Durie.
She has an off air executive role at the Network as general manager of Foxtel's Lifestyle brands.
Earlier this year Moore departed Pacific Magazines where she was general manager of homes and food for three years, after 12 years at the group.
“Of course it’s always sad to see the end of such a great experience, I guess you could call this the #sevenyearitch – it’s definitely time, and my new role heading up the Lifestyle Channels Foxtel has been an absolute whirlwind over the last six months and I know it’s just going to get bigger and better as all of our new shows start rolling out next year.
“And just quietly, I’m pretty excited at the thought of a whole, uninterrupted, summer with my family for the first time in seven years!

But they failed losing just by two points to Victorian dance teachers Pete, 32, and Courtney, 31. The judge Laurence Llewelyn Bowen awarded them a 10 for their final renovation, taking Pete and Courtney to a score of 29/30 from the judges while Melbourne brothers Tim and Mat received 27 points. 
Three teams battled it out in the House Rules 2019 Grand Final challenge after facing off in a seven day luxury loft challenge.
South Australia’s Lisa and Andy finished in third spot on 26 points.
From day one the chippies duo reckoned they have the requisite "background in carpentry and building, along with being able to visualise things before they are put together".
They had Tim’s family home, <a href="https://www.realestate.com.au/sold/property-house-vic-thornbury-128700662" target="_blank">a 1950s weatherboard cottage in Thornbury</a> (pictured below) that’s never been seriously renovated, get the makeover.

Melbourne chippies Tim and Mat end up the House Rules 2019 runners up

With no-one from Sydney, Katie and Alex Middlemiss, who have an 1880s cottage in the Southern Tablelands, are the NSW representatives on the new season of House Rules which premiered on Channel 7 on Sunday evening.
They moved to Gundaroo from the ACT in 2016 when they paid $470,000 for the near derelict two bedroom 70 square metre cottage on its 1900 square metre block (pictured below).

She's been a personal trainer, done midwifery and founded Fudie, which provided nutritious meals to busy individuals around Canberra. 
Despite their obvious renovation failings (she's set to be the brains and him the brawn), the couple admit the series has been a crazy ride with many sacrifices - the hardest being away from their 14 month old daughter Haillie.
So far, social media has been kind to the couple, with most queries about where she gets her hair done (she responded its over the border at Hair by Molly in Canberra), and we've already seen strong social influencers backing her efforts.
The seventh season of the show features an expanded judging panel comprised of designer Jamie Durie, international design guru Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen and local style expert Wendy Moore.
Designer Carolyn Burns-McCrave will again mentor and help the six state teams as they travel around the country transforming each other’s homes.

Melbourne chippies Tim and Mat expect they can win House Rules 2019

The Seven Network has bought an inner-Sydney Beacons­field warehouse, marketed as “a creative warehouse with residential development upside.”
It is expected to be for one of its lifestyle shows such as House Rules or Better Homes &amp; Gardens.
The Australian reported Seven Network (Operations) was so keen to acquire the two-level warehouse at 12-14 Victoria Street, Beaconsfield, for about $3 million that it snapped up the property before its September 20 scheduled auction.
The property features potential for terrace and townhouse redevelopment as well as a large frontage to Victoria Street in the upcoming trendy suburb.
The warehouse’s ground floor was previously used as a jewellery manufacturing operation while its upper levels were used as a home for its owner, costume jewellery and belt designer Peter Lang.
The warehouse also sports an outdoor upstairs courtyard.
Seven Network (Operations) bought the 780 square metre property through Knight Frank South Sydney agent Demi Carigliano.

Channel 7 buys Beaconsfield warehouse - possibly for House Rules

The South Australia home of former House Rules contestants Kate Whiting and James 'Harry' Harrison has quickly sold for $885,000.
The design duo, who are no longer together, paid $550,000 for the Somerton Park home in 2015.
They were set to live in the home for a few years then knock it down and build a new home before being cast on the 2017 hit Channel 7 renovation show.
Harris Real Estate's Simon Noakes and Callan Eames sold the three bedroom home in the coastal suburb south west of Adelaide in just over two weeks.
Harry is working on a local housing development while Kate has recently signed with Finesse Models Australia, Adelaide's leading runway and photographic modelling agency.

House Rules contestants sell Somerton Park home

An original two-bedroom Rosebery home secretly snapped up by Channel Seven last September for $1.25 million, has returned to the market as new home for auction this weekend.
It’s with a guide of $1.6 million through Purplebricks.
The transformation will be aired in the upcoming season of Channel Seven’s hit television show House Rules, the reality show hosted by Johanna Griggs. 
News Local's Southern Courier noted that the Rosebery neighbours began to speculate when they noticed a house at 54 Tramway Street was knocked down and rebuilt in the record time of just seven days.

The team are odds on favourites, priced at $1.62 with sportsbet.com.au, to beat out Queenslanders Aaron and Danielle, who are the outsiders at $2.20.
Sportsbet.com.au's Will Byrne said Kate and Harry's perfect score in the semi-final sees them enter the final as the ones to beat.
He said he wouldn't however rule out Aaron and Danielle.
The bookmaker is paying $5 for the show to be axed next year.
