<p>The Block have released their own special edition version of Monopoly, which offers buyers of the game a chance to win one of the renovated apartments in St Kilda's Gatwick Hotel.</p>
<p>It is unknown whose apartment they will win, nor what will happen to that apartment on the live auction day finale.</p>
<p>The Block have teamed up with Imagination Gaming and Winning Moves International Limited, an authorised licensee of Hasbro, to create the game.</p>
<p>Inside each Monopoly game is a unique numbered Golden Ticket, which, once registered, puts fans in the draw to win an apartment. </p>
<p>All 14 series feature in the popular family pasttime. The Dux House in Albert Park takes the coveted Mayfair spot.</p>
<p>Scott Cam, who is Mr Monopoly, said its the best prize he's ever heard of.</p>

The Block Monopoly to offer renovated Gatwick apartment prize

<p>Comedian Dave Hughes, who last year bought one of the overpriced <em>The Block Elsternwick</em> houses as an investment, has distanced himself from buying any from this year's series.</p>
<p>But he has been shown through the apartments that are now open for private inspection.</p>
<p>"I've said to them it's no its going to happen, but I've been through it," he said.</p>
<p>"I've tapped out," he said on Triple M Breakfast with Eddie Maguire, Luke Darcy and Will Anderson.</p>
<p>The listings went live late last month, two months before the finale on October 29.</p>
<p>The extended sales marketing suggesting the agents have a big ask ahead of them to find the required $2 million plus buyers.</p>
<p>Hughes reserved praise for the two penthouses.</p>
<p>"The two on top, the penthouses, are great," he said. </p>
<p>"The two on top are definitely the best.</p>
<p>"The views back to the city of Melbourne, you can see over the Bay as well, are incredible."</p>
<p>He said there are still a lot of colourful characters down there on Fitzroy Street.</p>
<p>"The builder said that people turn up everyday just to hang out thinking it's going to be renovated and opened as the Gatwick again," Hughes jested.</p>
<p>Darcy suggested that it sounded like he's "trying to scare a few other perspective buyers away".</p>
<p>Hughes even suggested he had one of the real estate agents say the contestants could have designed it just how he wanted it.</p>
<p>"They said we can put in your order and we get one of the couples to build your flat."</p>

Dave Hughes 'taps out' of The Block Gatwick but likes the penthouses

<p>This season's series of The Block is coming to the end, as the renovated apartments in St Kilda's Gatwick Hotel are listed for sale.</p>
<p>Each of the apartments are tipped to fetch over $2 million.</p>
<p>Melbourne locals and professional netball players Bianca and Carla are the bookies favourites, just ahead of South Australian husband and wife duo Kerrie and Spence.</p>

The Block Gatwick St Kilda apartments hit the market at $2 million plus

<p>The contestant for the forthcoming 14th series of The Block have been revealed.</p>
<p>The five couples from across the country will be tasked with renovating St Kilda's iconic Gatwick Hotel.</p>
<p>The opening promo has been pitched to focus on its St Kilda beach proximity, not its Fitzroy Street grunge</p>
<p>The successful applicants have been hankering to tell the world of their selection through their social media platforms and local media outlets.</p>
<p>The local renovators are best friends, champion netballers Bianca Chatfield and Carla Dziwoki.</p>
<p>Bianca posted a picture to Instagram of the pair on the steps of the Gatwick Hotel.</p>

<p>There's a hint in the post they may not be the most experienced.</p>

<p>Chatfield was a Commonwealth Games gold medallist and Dziwoki previously played for the Melbourne Vixens.</p>
<p>They'll no doubt be looking to replicate the success of last year's Melbourne-based couple Josh and Elyse, who won the show when their Elsternwick house renovation <a href="https://www.urban.com.au/news/77556-dave-hughes-buys-the-block-elsternwick-from-josh-and-e" target="_blank">sold to comedian Dave Hughes for over $3 million.</a></p>

<p>Hans and Courtney are the WA represnetatives from Perth. They will no doubt be exercising their love of travel in the choice of design. Courtney is a flight attendant. </p>
<p><em>The Block</em>‘<em>s</em> executive producer Julian Cress says this year a record 45,000 couples applied to be on the show – doubling the number who applied last year.</p>

The Block 2018 contestants revealed

<p>Radio presenter Jess Eva and her soon to be husband Norm are the couple representing Queensland in this years season of The Block.</p>
<p>The 14th series will see five couples from across the country renovate St Kilda's former Gatwick Hotel.</p>
<p>Norm, who has experience in building and maintenance in the Alexandra Headland region, has been peer pressured by Jess to get Instagram.</p>
<p>He <a href="https://www.instagram.com/norms_insta/" target="_blank">introduced himself on the social media platform</a> alongside a picture of all of The Block 2018 couples.</p>
<p>"Gday I’m Norm - Me Mrs told me to get one of these accounts cos never had Instagram in me life, so probably going to have to get some help," the 41 year old said.</p>
<p>"Am on the Block this year ... who would’ve thought someone like me on The Block. If it can happen to me it can bloody well happen to anyone. Have a good one."</p>
<p>It looks like Norm might be taking the lead on the decisions due to his experience in building. He runs Jarrod Hogan Building.</p>
<p>He's tidied up the family home too.</p>
<p>Recently Jess posted a picture on Instagram of their back yard swimming pool in their Maroochydore home, with a comment suggesting Norm 'finished the deck.'</p>
<p>The couple have been based at their Maroochydore home since they paid $620,000 in 2016 when they were upgrading in the suburb.</p>
<p>Jess is the breakfast host at 91.9 Sea FM and presents alongside Adam Barratt on their show BarRat and Jess.</p>
<p>The couple have two young children.</p>

Norm joins Instagram in Block 2018 countdown with Jess Eva

<p>Channel 9 has purchased the infamous Gatwick Hotel in Melbourne's St Kilda as the location for an upcoming series of The Block.</p>
<p>A caveat was placed on the property on Wednesday by a company owned by Nine Entertainment Group.</p>
<p>Channel Nine's The Block was keen to renovate the notorious Gatwick Hotel in Victoria despite its seedy location on Fitzroy Street.</p>
<p>It was originally advertised at $11 million plus when placed on the market in December 2015 through Lemon Baxter</p>
<p>Applications are now closed for a 2017 series with an Elsternwick property location in the mix.</p>
<p>The owners of The Gatwick Hotel, sisters Yvette Kelly and Rose Banks, have declined to confirm a sale of the boarding house.</p>
<p>Residents have been given four months notice of the need to move.</p>
<p>The Gatwick Private Hotel at 34 Fitzroy Street, St Kilda was constructed by 1938, one of a number of substantial apartment buildings or private hotels constructed in St Kilda during the inter-war period. It is a three-storey stuccoed building with three street frontages, executed in a restrained Spanish Mission manner.</p>
<p>The building is built to the property boundaries to the three streets.</p>
<p>The interior of the hotel is highly intact.</p>
<p>On the ground floor the reception office and a spacious (former) telephone booth feature Jacobean dark wood panelling with beveled glass lights above.</p>
<p>The former lounge has a large Adamesque ceiling centre in fibrous plaster.</p>
<p>The staircase has a wrought-iron balustrade with a lyre motif.</p>
<p>The Gatwick Private Hotel has been historically associated with the Carbone family who have owned and managed the building since 1977. Vittoria Carbone or ‘Queen Vicky’, in particular is fondly remembered for her compassionate management of the Hotel and her legacy is carried on by her daughters Rose and Yvette.</p>
<p class="p1"><span class="s1">The 64 room hotel had been on the <a href="https://www.urban.com.au/news/63875-the-block-2017-starts-casting-contestants-as-st-kilda-s-gatwick-hotel-tipped" target="_blank">market for a year</a> before being removed from the market in October 2016.</span></p>
