Billionaire Clive Palmer has secured Townsville's Queensland Building, outbidding a number of investors at its recent auction.
The hammer came down at $780,000 with Palmer's paddle the last to be raised.
There were eight registered bidders for the three-storey heritage listed property at 104 Flinders Street, with 15 bids that started from $500,000.

The building, in the heart of the city's entertainment precinct with views over Ross Creek, was sold by Colliers International Townsville agent Shaun McLaren.
Colliers International Townsville managing director Peter Wheeler says the sale represents a very positive sign for Townsville’s commercial property market.
"We’re not surprised it had so much interest," Wheeler said.

The 370 sqm building sits on 230 sqm and includes an attached three car lockable garage.
It was marketed as being a potential space for retail, office or residential use, with the two-bedroom residence located on the second level.
The Queensland Building is part of Townsville’s history being constructed in 1892 as the head office for North Queensland firm of Burns, Philp Co. Ltd and its subsidiary insurance company.
Palmer recently paid $4.6 million for a <a href="https://www.urban.com.au/news/104556-clive-palmer-spends-4-6-million-on-applecross-trophy-home" target="_blank">Perth trophy home</a>.

Billionaire Clive Palmer wins auction of heritage-listed Townsville building

Billionaire Rich Lister Clive Palmer has quietly bought a Perth home.
The leader of the United Australia Party has spent $4.6 million in Applecross, an affluent waterside suburb south of the Perth CBD.
The six bedroom, 2006 built home with views over the Swan River was initially listed in 2010 with $7.95 million hopes.
It was listed a number of times in the preceding years, cut to $6,499,000 in 2014, $5.99 million in 2015 and then sought mid to high $5 millions in 2018.

Its most recent marketing campaign, which began in February, saw it eventually drop to mid to high $4 millions.
The 965 sqm block last traded for $965,000 in 2003, before the home was built. It had been sold in 2003 by Shirley Barbara de la Hunty, better known as the Olympian Shirley Strickland.
The purpose built three level features a number of living and entertaining spaces.
There's a music room, a home office, a games room and a resort-style heated spa and swimming pool.

Clive Palmer spends $4.6 million on Applecross trophy home

The Figtree Pocket trophy home, Rivergum Retreat has gone under contract.
It had been on the market with an asking price of more than $8 million.
There were more than 140 inspections during the Ray White campaign.
The vendor is Peter Bond, the founder of the failed Linc Energy Group, who paid $9.5 million for the luxury waterfront in 2008.
The luxury waterfront has a 132m of water frontage to the Brisbane River, nine bathrooms and seven parking spots.
Clive Palmer, whose company Mineralogy in November won a claim for $US150m in unpaid royalties against two Citic Pacific subsidiaries, was a rumoured buyer.
The Australian reported last month the rumoured acquisition by Clive Palmer, along with Palmer's denial. 
News Ltd later reported Palmer made an offer of $7.4 million.
The Brisbane home of the mining magnate Peter Bond and wife Louise had been listed for sale in 2016.
Bond and his wife, Louise, took the property to auction in August last year, where they knocked back a bid of $9.25 million.
They bought it for a cut price $9.5 million in 2009 after it had spent over two years on the market.
It had initially been listed for $12 million by Zoe Cheihk, wife of developer George Cheihk.
The homestead encompasses a vast 1956 sqm of floor space and has seven bedrooms, nine bathroom and three home offices.
The luxury aspects continue with a 12 seat gold class cinema room.

Rivergum Retreat, Figtree Pocket goes under contract

Mining entrepreneur Clive Palmer, embroiled in legal problems, has sold off his corporate headquarters to a consortium that includes property fund managers Charter Hall Group and Investa Property Group.
The property deal, which included a group of three CBD buildings, was struck for $53.75 million, The Australian Financial Review. 
The collapse of Queensland Nickel created legal problems for Palmer and this deal may come as a relief to him.
Late last year, Palmer also reportedly <a href="https://www.urban.com.au/news/61102-clive-palmer-sells-waterfront-mansion-on-gold-coast">sold his Gold Coast waterfront mansion</a> to a confidant for $1.75 million.
Charter Hall had struck a deal with Carlton Football Club president Mark LoGiudice and global private equity giant Blackstone for their properties on Queen Street in the Brisbane CBD, but the deal would only go through if Palmer's adjoining Mineralogy House was included, the AFR said.
The combined properties at 366, 370 and 380 Queen Street would create a total site area of 2,147 sqm. The existing buildings have a net lettable area of 9400 sq m.
Unlisted Investa Commercial Property Fund and Charter Hall's Prime Office Fund have entered into a 50:50 joint venture for a $500 million development in the midst of Brisbane CBD's Golden Triangle between Queen, Edward and Eagle Streets.
"The ability to secure three sites from three different vendors simultaneously, to create one amalgamated site, illustrates the group's origination capability," Charter Hall's group executive for office, Adrian Taylor, said.
"With a limited number of suitable development sites and a forecast improving office market in Brisbane's CBD financial district, amalgamating these sites for future development will provide superior returns to alternative stabilised asset acquisitions in the market."
The joint venture's Blight Rayner-designed proposal comprises a commercial office tower with 45,000 sqm of space.
The proposed tower will have office accommodation over 40 levels, retail and other services as well.
Palmer’s  appointed Knight Frank and then CBRE to sell his 11-­storey building. His company, Mineralogy, bought the office tower in 2009 for $19 million. Mineralogy then sold it to Palmer for $15.45 million in 2013.
The adjoining buildings of Blackstone and LoGiudice saw CBRE and JLL appointed as selling agents last year.
LoGiudice's office building was bought from the failed coal mining entrepreneur Nathan Tinkler in 2013 for $4.9 million.

Clive Palmer sells Brisbane headquarters to Charter Hall, Investa consortium

Clive Palmer has reportedly sold his Gold Coast waterfront mansion to a confidant soon after beginning its marketing.
It was bought by former Deloitte chief executive Domenic Martino, who's also listed as a director of the Palmer Foundation.
He's paying the same $1.75 million price that Palmer paid in 2011.
Set on 790 square metres and only built in 2004, the Paradise Point home has five bedrooms, a theatre room, wine cellar, executive home office and a swimming pool.
Palmer snatched the home for a steal five years ago when he bought it from Fred Taplin, who had paid $2.45 million in 2007.
Talpin, a former Gold Coast Galaxy chief executive, later went up against Palmer's Gold Coast United FC on a rival bid for the region's first A-League franchise, a battle which Palmer won.
