The Property Industry Foundation (PIF) raised $90,000 for homeless young people via their annual Melbourne Charity Sailing Challenge, with major sponsor Brookfield.
A fleet of 37 yachts took over Port Phillip Bay to raise funds for the PIF House Program.
The initiative brought together over 400 individuals from the property and construction industry, Australian Olympic sailors Haylee Outteridge, Rio gold medallist Tom Burton and PIF Event Patron John Bertrand, AO, America’s Cup Winning Skipper.
42 per cent of homeless people in Australia are under 25 years old, meaning there are over 44,000 young Australians sleeping on the streets each night.

The funds raised will support the national PIF House Program, which builds homes for at risk and homeless young people across NSW, Victoria and Queensland.
In these homes, carers and counsellors provide support and mentoring to rebuild young lives.
Nationally the PIF House program has delivered 32 bedrooms since 2017, 50 bedrooms are in the pipeline and the aim by 2021 is to have 125 bedrooms completed for homeless youth.
Mr Bertrand, AO, is passionate about helping young people who he believes are our future. “I have been the event patron for PIF’s Melbourne Charity Sailing Challenge for nine years. Each year I come back, I am astounded by the property industry’s passion and dedication to helping homeless and at-risk young people."
The Chairman of PIF Victoria, Peter Inge OAM, said, "The great part about this industry is that we come together to raise funds and also use our skills to physically build these homes to help young people break the cycle of homelessness,” he says.
Over the last five years, PIF have invested $10 million into charitable programs, helping to rebuild young lives.

Big hearted Ray White Toronto owner Paul Wrigley is spending this week driving an his 1966 Holden HR rally car around NSW on his fourth Variety Bush Bash to help raise money for sick children. 
Wrigley has owned Ray White Toronto | Wangi for more than 18 years.

Wrigley, pictured above on the right with his mate and co-driver, says this cause was very important to him because all children deserved to have opportunities in life. 
“My kids have a great life full of opportunities and I want to be able to make a difference to as many Aussie kids as I can,” said Wrigley who set off in his 1966 Holden HR sedan on the week long rally from Newcastle to Glen Innes, Narrabri, Forbes, Griffith, Orange then Mudgee and back to Newcastle. 
“The Bush Bash is all about the kids but we do get to drive around parts of NSW that we normally wouldn’t do or see so it is a win win for me. I get a week off work driving around the countryside raising money for disadvantaged or disabled kids! Why not hey?!” 
Last year, the Variety Bush Bash raised more than $850,000 for local children who are sick, have a disability or experiencing financial hardship.
Wrigley said donations go towards providing iPads/laptops to a remote school or towards sensory lighting to severely disabled kids throughout all parts of NSW. 
“There’s sporting grants to disabled kids that have a passion or a talent in their chosen field. A wheelchair helped a disabled kid in Forster who had never been on the sand. They bought an air conditioner for a family who couldn’t afford one for their son has a heart condition where if the temperature of the house isn’t consistent he could die,” he said.
Other donations have bought a 22 seater bus for remote rural community schools so the teacher could drive the school kids to state sporting events where they wouldn’t be able to participate otherwise. 
His rally car is basically ready each year as long as nothing breaks on it. 
“The Bash route is designed to cover as many dirt tracks as we can so there are the odd parts that break along the way,” he said. 
“I try and raise as much money as I can each year for the bash plus I do a few other events throughout the year.” 
Over the last three years Wrigley personally helped raise more than $50,000 for this charity.

Ray White owner on the Variety Bush Bash raising money for sick kids

$500,000 has been raised during the 2017 Charity Regatta to build a home for homeless youth, under the Foundation’s PIF House Program. Held at the Middle Harbour Yacht Club, the event was sponsored by Colliers International for the seventh year.
Property Industry Foundation national board member and Colliers International ANZ CEO, John Kenny, reflected on the fact every night across Australia there are over 44,000 young people who are homeless.
“Our support for the Foundation and the Regatta is a tangible way for Colliers International to make a real difference to the serious and persistent problem of youth homelessness,” he said.
In the lead up to the event, the Foundation in association with Colliers International, the Youth Sailing Academy and the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia created a two-day Youth Sailing Program.
Aiming to build the confidence of 12 disadvantaged young people and empower them to rebuild their lives, the young people are being assisted by four of the Foundation’s charity partners including Wesley Mission, CatholicCare, Marist180 and Weave Youth &amp; Community Services.
Property Industry Foundation CEO Rosemary Smithson said she was proud of the incredible support response from across the property industry.
“What this shows is that our donors in the property industry are committed to raising funds to rebuild the lives of at-risk and homeless young people,” she said.
Smithson thanked Colliers International as the Principal Sponsor for being such a strong advocate for the Foundation, the Regatta and the Youth Sailing Program.
“The support from Colliers International shows real leadership in corporate philanthropy. By doing that, they are encouraging other corporations to make a difference to the community,” she concluded.

Property industry commitment to young homeless people shines in charity regatta

The Property Industry Foundation (PIF) held their annual Charity Sailing Day Friday 24 March raising more than $90,000 to go towards building hoes for homeless youth.
The event had over 400 sailors and 38 yachts.
Daryl Browning, Victorian Chairman of the Property Industry Foundation said these vital funds raised by the property industry will help thousands of young Victorians rebuild their lives and plan their futures.
"These funds will be distributed to our beneficiaries charities Lighthouse Foundation and Whitelion/Open Family Australia with industry members of PIF constructing these homes,” he said.
John Bertrand, event patron, met with the young guests who are involved in the charity programs and spoke with them about the experience aiming to inspire a positive change in their lives.
"The Property Industry Foundation has done a great job in supporting the endeavours to help homeless young people,” says Mr Bertrand.

Property Industry Foundation raises in excess of $90,000 for youth homelessness

Henley and Villawood charity home to go under the hammer on Good Friday

The Property Industry Foundation's annual Charity Sailing Day, will be held at Royal Brighton Yacht Club late March to raise money for youth charities including the Lighthouse Foundation and Whitelion/Open Family Australia.
The event, sponsored by Brookfield is on from 10am to 7.30pm Friday 24 March.
John Bertrand, AO and America’s Cup winning skipper is event patron. He said the PIF is partnering with its charity beneficiaries and the property industry to build homes to reduce youth homelessness.
“The biggest challenge to breaking a vicious cycle and climb your own Everest is not having a community of support," he said.
He will meet with some of the young people to give them encouragement and guidance on their journey to making a positive change in their life.
The Property Industry Foundation is currently looking for volunteers for the event.
