The home of the late Wendy Hughes, the acclaimed actress, has been sold in Wombarra by her children.

The 850 sqm oceanfront on the NSW Illawarra escarpment was sold for $1.9 million, a tad less than its $2.1 million asking price.

The beachfront retreat was built after she paid $154,000 in 1988. It was listed by Urban Property agent Wayne Bennett.

Hughes starred across television, film and the stage, winning Logie awards in 1977 and 1984 in the best supporting actress category for Power Without Glory and Return To Eden.

In 1983 she won the Australian Film Institute's Best Lead actress award for her role in Careful, He Might Hear You.
