The journey for the project began in early 2018, when MJA Studio was presented with a unique opportunity to partner with Singapore's WOHA architects. Together, they aimed to create a distinctive and unparalleled way of life for the residents of Applecross and Australia as a whole. After planning and consideration, the project received approval in April 2020.
The 13-storey Forbes Residences will feature 37 three and four-bedroom apartments. Residents will have access to a host of amenities, including an infinity pool, state-of-the-art gym, and a multifunctional room for various social gatherings.
The development will also incorporate 20 short-stay apartments and a range of commercial tenancies on the podium level, with the commercial spaces set to house community gardens, co-working areas, and a civic hall.
From its very inception, Forbes Residences has been planned and developed using WOHA's five key ratings. These innovative metrics were devised to overcome the limitations of conventional planning approaches and offer a more holistic perspective.
The five ratings—Green Plot Ratio, Community Plot Ratio, Civic Generosity Index, Ecosystem Contribution Index, and Self-Sufficiency Index—have guided the project to engage seamlessly with its surroundings, both built and natural.
The building is divided into several vertical neighbourhoods, each spanning approximately three floors. Within each neighbourhood, vertical hanging gardens will be integrated, providing green spaces for all residents to enjoy every three levels, while just four apartments will grace each floor.
