More and more homeowners are making the decision to downsize to an apartment, and with good reason. The benefits of downsizing are numerous, particularly when you find the right location and amenities.

One of the most common reasons for downsizing is to simplify life and reduce the time and energy required to maintain a large home. When moving to a smaller space, homeowners can free up time to pursue other interests, such as travel, hobbies, and spending time with loved ones. In essence, downsizing allows individuals to focus on the things that matter most in life.

Of course, location is also a critical factor in the decision to downsize. The location of a property can impact everything from lifestyle to accessibility to value.

One development that has caught the attention of many downsizers due to it's location is Essendon project, The Watson by Kincrest.

Matt recently bought off the plan in the development, having spent the past 22 years living just 500 metres down the road.

"We're downsizing, which is something we've thought about for a couple of years, and we looked at townhouses but the stairs put us off," Matt said.

"We're looking at this for the long term, so the apartment with off-street parking, that's what appealed to us.

"When we were looking we had a 500 metre radius, because you can virtually live on this strip. There's doctors, florists, green grocers, seven restaurants I think there is, and cafes, so we always wanted to stay around this area."

Matt said he spoke to a few friends who have downsized, and they said you'll be surprised with how much time you've got on your hands.

"So I hope I'll be using the cafes more than I normally do and not trimming the hedges," Matt said.

The Watson floorspace measures around 20 per cent larger than apartments within the surrounding area, making it perfect for downsizers.

Two and three-bedroom apartments are still available in The Watson, with floorplans spanning from 108 sqm through to 294 sqm.
