Prospective off the plan apartment buyers will have a rare opportunity to buy into the tightly held Frankston on the Mornington Peninsula, with plans approved for a new apartment development near the train station.

A planning permit has been granted for an eight-story mixed-use development at 59-61 Playne Street, Frankston, which will home 60 apartments above ground-level retail.

Architecture firm Ewert Leaf put together the plans.

The decision was made during the Council meeting held in March, with councillors voting five to four in favour of the project.

It was a major step forward for the strategic development site located in the heart of the Frankston Major Activity Centre (MAC). The site is currently home to Mialls Gun Shop.

Following thorough deliberations, Council officers recommended approval of the proposal, highlighting its numerous positive characteristics and its potential to contribute significantly to the revitalization of the activity centre.
