Australian TV, film and stage legend John Gaden, who recently appeared in an edgy comedy video highlighting the overheated Sydney auction market, was on the joyous receiving end recently.

The video features an auction of a studio apartment with no toilet in "south west, west Sydney," five and a half hours from the Sydney CBD..

Gaden secured $1.84 million for his two bedroom garden apartment in Rushcutters Bay at its recent auction, considerably more than the $1.4 million quoted by Knight Bailey.

The result nearly doubled Gaden's $960,000 purchase in 2007 for the 160 square metre apartment in the Queensboro complex.

Gaden is Southern-Highlands bound.

The veteran actor has won two Helpmann Awards for Best Male Actor in a Play in 2001 for Yasmina Reza's The Unexpected Man and, again, in 2007 for The Lost Echo.
