The Project's Carriae Bickmore seeks tenants for Byron Airbnb
The surge in empty AirBnBs coming back into the traditional tenancy market is being witnessed in the NSW tourism town of Byron Bay.
Carrie Bickmore, the co-host of The Project, was getting up to $1,200 a night for Luxico, her rental on Airbnb.
But with the lockdown, she's now sought full-time tenants. It means a drop in revenue as the home has been offered at $2,200 a week, one of 117 available for rent.
Her five bedroom 1920s Massinger Street property that cost $3 million in 2018 has been renovated, including a pool and a hot tub.
The Airbnb crisis is creating a perfect storm for long-term landlords now feeling the pinch when it comes to their property portfolios.
In Sydney is it being seen at Bondi Beach.
Two weeks ago Bondi there were 277 properties available for rent, but now its 337, according to realestate.com.au.
The big issue is how much do landlords need to drop asking rents to secure tenants before the seasonal winter doubling of the vacancy rate.
The recently sold Bondi Beach investment apartment of former cricket captain Michael Clarke was up for rent at $4000 a week by its Bellevue Hill buyer Dana Lewis, the wife of Oceana Fund’s David Lewis. But after market feedback was available this week at $3500 through Sotheby's International.
