The Highlands, Leura trophy with colourful history listed

The Blue Mountains trophy home, The Highlands at Leura has been listed for sale.

It is the four-bedroom, two-bathroom, 1911 summer house built in the arts and crafts style for the once famous Fay’s shoe family.

Purcell Property agent Brenden Purcell has a $2 million to $2.2 million guide for the 2793 square metre Lachlan Street estate which was initially set in Paul Sorensen-designed gardens.

“With the owners relocating overseas it is time for a new story,” Purcell said.

It first sold to solicitor Barney Utz in 1939 and was last in the headlines when sold in 1997 for $448,000 by Lord Andrew Battenberg, also known as Andrew Charles Lee.

There was silly chatter of Battenberg being the illegitimate son of Prince Philip, but this was officially denied by the Duke of Edinburgh’s office.

There have been 12 sales at Leura above $2 million, the most recent for Eulara when $2.1 million was paid.
