A rare release of nine large parcels of residential land on the east side of the historic Retford Park, Bowral, in the Southern Highlands, has been unveiled.

Two blocks will be auctioned May 4.

The fully serviced Mansfield Road blocks are 8250 square metres and 10,000 square metres.

The large-lot residential enclave has a semi-rural outlook with stands of mature trees.

The nine blocks, ranging from 8042 square metres to 1.388 hectares.

“Small acreages of this quality are very hard to find in the Highlands now," the listing agent Phil Barron of LJ Hooker Bowral said.

“Initial interest has been very high,” he added.

The land is part of the Retford Park estate, home of  retired media proprietor James Fairfax.

Established by the Hordern family in the late 1800’s, Retford Park was then the Australian base for American cattle breeders, King Ranch, before being purchased by James Fairfax in 1964.

"The blocks provide an outstanding opportunity for purchasers to build the home and garden of their dreams.

"The small acreages mean that pets and ponies can also be part of the family with plenty of space to run and enjoy," Mr Barron said.

Expectations are that  two properties should sell in the region above $500,000.
