The Block is set for a 2019 makeover at the Oslo Hotel hostel in St Kilda, not far from their upcoming series at Gatwick hostel on Fitzroy Street.

The Herald Sun suggests it is to be recreated as five mansions.

The gold rush-era terraces are on Grey Street.

The newspaper describes the street as "seedy".

The Oslo Hotel backpacker rooms start from just $44 per night and dorm rooms from $18 a night.

The Grey Street property is estimated to have cost between $7.5 million to $10 million.

Title records show the owner recently died, leaving the estate to three beneficiaries.

The mooted purchase foreshadows a 15th season of the long-running show that began in 2003 at Bondi Beach – with the 14th series set at the Gatwick to air later this year.
