Taronga Zoo director Simon Duffy and husband Wally Murphy, head of service operations at Westpac, sold their Rozelle home for $2.5 million after it passed in at weekend auction.

The four-bedroom Hutcheson Street home attracted four bidders at its Belle auction.

Belle Balmain agent Monique Dower secured the sale.

The freestanding Victorian era cottage that features timber floors, high ceilings, wall panelling and plantation shutters came with a guide of $2.35 million.

The buyers were a family from Annandale.

The vendors had extensively renovated the double-fronted Victorian cottage which is best remembered for its initial makeover by Patrick Thompson, the actor carpenter son of screen legend Jack Thompson, in the late 1990s.

The four-bedroom cottage now has a top floor parent retreat with walk in wardrobe, ensuite and decking with Anzac Bridge and city skyline views.
