Sydney’s latest tower 100 Mount celebrates completion
The latest addition to Sydney’s skyline – a 35-storey tower named 100 Mount, has recently completed construction and will stand 20 metres taller than the next tallest building in northern Sydney. The futuristic design is a collaborative vision realised by internationally renowned Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP (SOM) and Australia’s own Architectus.
Drawing on inspiration from Sydney’s rich architectural landscape, the elegant structure seamlessly fits into its urban environment and features a unique cross-braced shell which encases expansive planes of glass. With over 40,000 square metres of lettable office space, the tower meets the highest standards in office spaces available in the city.
In addition to the building’s physical distinction, the credibility of the architectural team has given 100 Mount world-standard recognition.
“100 Mount is testimony to the excellent calibre and collaboration of our designers. Combining SOM’s global expertise and design evolution with Architectus’ best local expertise and execution has created a world class building. We are very proud of the attention to detail combined with an excellent vision and concept which will set the benchmark in North Sydney for many generations to come.”
Paul Oates, Dexus Head of Development
SOM is known for their pioneering skyscraper design including projects such as Chicago’s Willis Tower and John Hancock Centre; Lever House in NYC and more recently One World Trade Centre (NYC) and Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building in Dubai.
“100 Mount is an embodiment of Sydney’s spirit of architectural innovation. SOM is proud to have continued this legacy, marrying it with our own history of innovation in skyscraper design worldwide. We’re thrilled to have created an iconic, beautiful centre for commerce in North Sydney’s growing Central Business District.”
Adam Semel, SOM Managing Partner
Architectus is a renowned architecture and design firm known for their impressive portfolio of office designs across Australia, including collaboration with Ingenhoven Architects, 1 Bligh, which was Australia’s first high rise with innovative double-skin glass façade; and Barrack Place – Australia’s first ever WELL Core & Shell Gold Precertification and Platinum Certification.
At ground level, the tower contains a commercial lobby, featuring a café and restaurant, as well as a pedestrian pathway connecting the building to nearby public transport. A selection of boutique stores line the street-front along Walker Street. The street is also complimented with an additional street vehicle entry, which is forecast to remove over 100 cars from Spring Street and improve pedestrian access.
Each level of the tower also enjoys spectacular panoramic views of Sydney Harbour, the Sydney Opera House, Sydney Harbour Bridge and cityscape, thanks to the cavernous voids of open space and floor to ceiling glass panes.
The project, delivered by property developer Dexus, is also targeting a 5-star Green Star Rating and 5-star NaBERs rating due to its innovative approach to sustainable design. The International WELL Building Institute™ has also awarded 100 Mount the WELL Core & Shell Gold Pre-certification. With the health and wellness of the building's occupants at the forefront of design, the building offers automatic daylight control and glare reduction, as well as chilled beam systems for temperature control.
“In progressively dense urban areas, it's vital that workplace design and environmental performance are paramount, but also that we deliver amenities and greater space for the public to move through and around the buildings. Just as Architectus has achieved on 1 Bligh and Barrack Place, the ambition for 100 Mount Street was to create a highly efficient office building that sets a new benchmark for workplace design, public amenity and sustainability features.”
