Stockland gets Victoria approval for 5,000-home Mt Atkinson project

The Victorian government has approved Stockland’s plan to develop up to 5,000 new homes as part of its Mt. Atkinson project, 24 km from Melbourne’s CBD.

Stockland’s announcement of the approval confirmed details of the investment of Growth Area Infrastructure Contributions (GAIC) within the Mt. Atkinson precinct.

The developer said it will enable “early delivery of infrastructure and activation of community uses, including schools, a new train station and bus service”. 

Victoria’s Minister for Planning, the Hon. Richard Wynne and local member for Kororoit the Hon. Marlene Kairouz attended the milestone on site event.

Also present were representatives from Mt. Atkinson Holdings (MAH) to celebrate the milestone on site today.

Stockland general manager-Victoria, Mike Davis, welcomed the approval and said the agreement would “bring forward the delivery of thousands of new homes at affordable price points, allowing more Victorians to get into their own home sooner”. 

Stockland’s component of the Mt. Atkinson project comprises 315 hectares of land. The project includes schools, childcare facilities, a town centre and retail besides a business and industrial park.

Construction is expected to start later this year.

The property is located within the broader Mt. Atkinson Precinct Structure Plan in Truganina.

The company has about $2.4 billion invested across 12 residential communities in Melbourne’s major growth corridors.

Stockland previously announced a $200,000 national roll out of Tesla Destination Chargers across 31 shopping centres from Cairns to Melbourne.
