The son of millionaire pubs and poker machines magnate Bruce Mathieson has emerged as the buyer of the Gold Coast's most expensive home sale so far this year.

Bruce Mathieson Jnr has spent $11.6 million on the Hedges Avenue absolute beachfront home of retired cotton farmer Alan Frost, who bought it for $6.6 million in 2014.

It sits less than two kilometres away from his parent's $18 million home on Albatross Avenue, Mermaid Beach's other millionaire's row.

The three bedroom home on a double 810 square metre block sold through Kollosche Prestige agents Michael Kollosche and Harry Kakavas.

Mathieson Snr was number 42 on Australia's top 50 Rich List according to Forbes, with a net worth of $910 million.

He owns 25% of Australian Leisure & Hospitality Group, Australia's biggest hotel and pub operator.
