Record hopes sunk as Brighton bathing box sale kicks off 2018 Melbourne auctions
Brighton had its first beach box auction of the year yesterday when the baby-blue and white Bathing Box 26 had $340,000 hopes.
The listing came soon after No. 60 (above and below) fetched $340,000 late last year.

But JP Dixon passed the offering in at $285,000 this morning, and by late afternoon The Herald Sun reported it had been sold post-auction at $300,000.
Buyers must live in the City of Bayside to be eligible to purchase one of the 80 or so Brighton’s bathing boxes.
No. 60 had come with a price guide of $270,000 to $297,000 late last year, and sold before its December 2 scheduled auction through Marshall White.
It topped the previous record, set in 2016 when a newly-built hut sold for $326,000.
