Queenscliff's historic Maytone used in WWII for sale

Maytone, the historic grand manor in Queenscliff, has been listed for sale.

The property, which gives its name to the beach it faces, was built in the 1880s and has had a long and rich history.

It was built for the staunch Victorian parliamentarian, Solicitor-General and Crown Prosecutor Travers Adamson.

The Victorian Government bought the property in the late 1890s. It was acquired by the military and became the home of the Fort Queenscliff Commandant, then later as the Fort's Officers' Mess.

The garages were a later addition to the property, built in 1939. During WWII they served as the Artillery Store for the two 4.7 inch guns known as the Crowns' Nest Battery.

Ownership was then passed to the Commonwealth, and in the mid 90's ownership became private and it was converted into a guest house.

It has six bedrooms and eight bathrooms, a music room, sitting room, and library. The balcony has Point Nepean views and a heritage chimney is retained. 

There's also a one bedroom cottage on the 1,025 sqm parcel.
