Builder developer Habitat Development Group has officially commenced construction on their latest Sunshine Coast apartment development, St Clair.

The builder developer has turned the first sod at the near 9,000 sqm Waterside Retreat site, the last east facing, absolute waterfront site on Birtinya Island overlooking Lake Kawana.

St Clair will comprise two eight-level buildings with 200 apartments.

Habitat Development Group Managing Director, Cleighton Clark, said the team is thrilled to be commencing construction of the landmark project.

"The past few years have been difficult for the development and construction industry but we are beginning to see pricing on building materials stabilise and thanks to our strong track record on the coast, we have a great pool of local subcontractors who will help us make this project a reality," Clark said.

"With rental vacancy at an all time low and very few residential projects underway on the Sunshine Coast, we feel this is a great opportunity to help ease the current housing crisis."

In a boost to the local construction sector, between 350-400 workers will be on site during the construction phase.

St Clair has been architecturally designed to capitalise on its prime waterfront location which includes ocean views across Lake Kawana to the east and hinterland views to the west.

Residents at St Clair will enjoy a range of resort style facilities such as a 25-metre resort style pool with shallow water wading and loungers, and a barbecue pavilion and fire pit area.

There will also be an exclusive residents’ dining room with a 16-seat dining table, chef’s kitchen and private outdoor entertaining terrace, as well as a 1,000 sqm private parkland with a fire pit, BBQ facilities, and direct access to the Lake Kawana esplanade.

A rooftop terrace on level nine will feature an outdoor kitchen and more BBQ facilities, along with numerous seating and lounging areas with sunrise and ocean views over Bokarina, as well as sunset vistas across the hinterland.

Birtinya has become one of the region’s true property hot spots with excellent proximity to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital as well as to the Stockland Birtinya shopping centre which features a flagship Coles and ALDI supermarket and some 40 specialty retailers along with a variety of food and entertainment options.

“We are very pleased to hear that the former NightQuarter precinct at Birtinya is set to be revitalised into a family friendly entertainment precinct under a new name, The Station," Clark added.

"It’s an exciting addition to the local entertainment industry."

Over 50% of stage one of St Clair apartments has already been sold, with prices ranging from $749,900 to in excess of $3 million for one of the penthouses.

Construction is due for completion in late 2025.
