The Gold Coast apartment developer, Aniko Group, is the latest to lodge plans for an apartment project on the sought-after Chevron Island.

Aniko, who have predominantly been developing on Hope Island for the last few years, have submitted a development application to the Gold Coast City Council for a 21-level tower at 12-16 Weemala Street, a site they bought last year through GV Property Group.

There will be over 100 apartments across the 18 residential levels. The first two levels will be podium for elevated parking, set above an activated ground plane with a large lobby. There will be a further two levels of basement parking.

Plus Architecture has designed the tower, noting in their submission that they always design with the intent to produce buildings that are not only beautiful, but considered, functional and lasting.

"It is a fundamental belief of ours that well considered design improves the way we live," Plus suggested.

They said the design of the tower was inspired by the natural soft and subtle movements of the surrounding environment, the form dips and curves to mimic these graceful lines.

"This ultimately crafts a highly articulated building which not only takes these movements into consideration, but also captures the picturesque surrounds."

The two-bedroom apartments will start from 90 sqm in internal space, with a further 15 sqm of balcony. The biggest apartments are on level 20, the three-bed, three-bath plus multi-purpose room offering over 200 sqm of internal living area.

Level 21 homes the rooftop recreational facilities, which includes a lap pool and spa with 180 degree views across the ocean, a gym with a sauna and a yoga space, and a business lounge with private offices, booths, and a boardroom.

There's also a multi-purpose room, and a private indoor barbecue space, which can open up to a dining and function area, both bookable for residents.

When the site was purchased, Aniko boss George Mastrocostas said the company would take a different approach to Chevron Island than Hope Island, creating a project in keeping with the community fabric of the island suburb.

“Chevron is just a short walk to Surfers Paradise, the beach, the Gold Coast’s cultural heart and all the amenities the central Gold Coast has to offer.

"It’s both laid back and sophisticated at the same time, so these are the elements that we will inspire us when we finalise our plans.”

Plus Architecture Director Danny Juric says the tower will be inspired by ‘elegant simplicity’.

“Our concept for the project is really driven by this idea of creating more than an apartment – we want to create homes. Homes that sit in the sky gazing in 360 degrees across the waterways, city skyline, and sunsets over the hinterland,” he said.

“We want the structure to convey this simple elegance while being grounded by a collection of townhomes that complements the distinct village atmosphere of Chevron Island.”

Earlier this year Aniko sold out Athena Residences, one of a number of projects they've on Hope Island in recent years.
