The Pyrmont apartment record has been reset with the sale of the penthouse in the award-winning Sydney Wharf, listed for the first time since its construction.

The Pirrama Road penthouse was bought off the plan for $6,986,000 in 2008, a year before the PTW Architects-designed, Charter Hall-developed and Brookfield Multiplex-built development was completed.

McGrath Pyrmont agent Robert Alfeldi had expectations of a sale around $20 million given its view of the western side of the city, across Darling Harbour towards the Barangaroo precinct.

The three bedroom apartment has 350 sqm of internal space, and a further 80 sqm of terraces. There's also a rooftop terrace with a plunge pool and garaging for three cars.

There's a mezzanine-level home office overlooking the living space.

The priciest apartment sale in Pyrmont comes from Sydney Wharf, when the former Ferrari boss Herbert Appleroth sold his spread for $13.3 million.

He amalgamated two apartments after paying $6.9 million for both back in 2008.

Sydney Wharf held the record before that, set when Dr Ian Campbell sold his double apartment for $12 million in 2015.
