The Midnight Oil frontman and ex-politician Peter Garrett and his wife Doris have sold in Paddington and bought back at Kangaroo Valley after an extended absence.

Their Gordon Street home (above) on 238 sqm fetched $5.25 million, a record price for the street.

The couple bought the rundown three-bedroom terrace in 2015 for $2.7 million.

Their renovations included a new rear double garage with a studio apartment above.

They have bought a $1.2 million, 4000 sqm Kangaroo Valley property. The Tuscan-inspired Hartland, with three bedrooms and a separate studio/garage, was a holiday rental before it was sold by the Patrick family.

With natural rainforest, the purchase was made two years after they sold their Mittagong retreat for $2.8 million.

The Garretts had been based at the 5.8 hectare Mittagong estate since they sold their Balgowlah home for $585,000 in 1995, when they had a weekender at Kangaroo Valley in the Shoalhaven.
