Dean Semler, the Oscar winning cinematographer, and Annie, his actor wife, have sold in Balmoral.

They bought the Sante Fe style home in 1980 for $140,000, now with a part ownership by the daughter Ingrid.

There were $3 million to $3.3 million hopes for the Botanic Road home through Adam Vernon at Vernon Partners. It comes with pedestrian access only.

Semler, who has worked on more than 70 feature films, won a 1991 Oscar for the Kevin Costner film Dances with Wolves.

He has been the cinematographer for Mad Max 2, Bodyline, Nutty Professor II, Deadcalm and The Longest Yard.

The home away from home for the South Australian has been on the Pacific Palisades in Los Angeles.
