One of Paddington's largest terrace homes has been be sold for the first time in two decades for $7 million.

The Underwood Street residence, over nine metres wide at the end of the row, last traded for $1.55 million in 1998.

It has a $7 million price guide through The Agency's Ben Collier, who was marketing the property for a March 24 auction.

Set on 475 sqm, the stately home has retained its original heritage.

The traditional verandahs wrapping around all three levels have views down towards Rushcutters Bay.

The five bedroom home is set in private and mature established gardens that includes a swimming pool.

Underwood Street hasn't passed the $7 million mark since 2011 when Collette Dinnigan sold her five bedroom compound to Woollahra lawyer Tania Van Der Vegt for $7.3 million.

The average five bedroom terrace is fetching $4.65 million, CoreLogic calculate.
