North Ryde home of late jazz muso Ken Flannery listed

The North Ryde estate of the late jazz musician Ken Flannery is set to be sold.

Ken, who played with the likes of Louise Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald during his career, owned the property with wife Patricia for decades.

The iconic fibre home was established in North Ryde's post war, returned soldiers estate.

Set on a level 556 sqm, the home has three bedrooms, one bathroom and a large covered deck which overlooks the lawns.

It has a price guide of $1.30 million and $1.35 million for its August 13 auction through McGrath Ryde agents Kim Toyer-Muttley and Sharon Skrabanich.

Ken founded the iconic Port Jackson Jazz Band, which was compared in an early edition of the Australian Woman's Weekly 'to be as iconic as the Sydney Harbour Bridge.'

He lived a humble life but had the experience of being taken to Hollywood in his early 20's by two professional American musicians, who paid for the trip after hearing him play in Australia.

Up until his death in January, Ken was still heard playing his trumpet by the neighbours.
