Michael and Cathy Wagner, the buyers of the central Victorian estate, Musk Farm, have sold in East Melbourne for $5.6 million.

Their 1860s East Melbourne home had been reimagined over the last two years.

Serviced by an elevator, the home has four bedrooms, three bathrooms and a roof terrace garden with open fireplace.

It last traded for $3.7 million in 2014 and at $372,500 in 1989.

Caine Real Estate agent Toby Campbell secured the sale after the couple bought a nearby apartment as their city base.

The couple spent $2.41 million on Musk Farm which had been created by the late designer Stuart Rattle.

The 1.2 hectare former school cottage holding is 100 kilometres north-west of Melbourne
