The longtime Lavender Bay bolthole of the renowned Bali-based landscaper, Made Wijaya was sold at auction earlier this month for $1.19 million.

It was listed following his 2016 death.

Born Michael White, Wijaya secured an international reputation especially after designing the late David Bowie’s garden at his Caribbean island of Mustique.

His one bedroom Walker Street ground floor apartment, which overlooks Wendy Whiteley’s Secret Garden, was bought in 1996 for $295,000.

Stone McMahons Point’s Heather McCartney had $850,000 hopes, but there was a $900,000 opening bid.
